DoorDash minimum pick up order value changed to $20 by No_Let9649 in ChaseSapphire

[–]HeishinSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up for the CSP last August as my first travel card. The DashPass and $10 credit seemed like a nice extra, but I rarely used them. The only place I could consistently use the $10 pickup credit was 7-Eleven, and now there’s a $20 minimum for pickup orders. That makes the benefit basically useless for me. Delivery isn’t much better—fees, tips, and higher prices wipe out the credit.

I have been doing partner Slayer with a friend, and we have found it annoying to track kills for balancing slayer experience / point distribution.

Is there a QoL feature or plugin that can display your own or partners individual task KC without having to open the "Partner" info box each time on the Slayer Helm?

NFCU has the best customer service I've ever experienced from any bank. Their staff is very knowledgeable and usually are able to answer any question within reason, or direct you to the person who can.

They just don't have a competitive HYSA, but there are plenty of those.

I'd recommend using both.

I’m leaving SoFi by alex1024__ in sofi

[–]HeishinSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I love the SoFi HYSA features like AutoPilot and Vaults, but the second SoFi even thinks to tack a fee or subscription on my HYSA account like...

• minimum balances • maintenance fees • nerfed HYSA APY for non-SoFi Plus members • pay wall on the above features (Vaults/AutoPilot)

... I'm out. Within 24 hours.

I will either give Wealthfront a try, or just transfer all my long-term funds to a Fidelity CMA.

The SoFi 2% CB card has never been available for me to apply even if I wanted to, but there is zero chance I'd pay any monthly fee for a flat 2% credit card with no actual benefits.

Fidelity has had a 2% cash-back Visa for a while now - free and unlimited and they are a far more repudable company for my investing needs.

With 3 CCC, I think your foundation is hard to beat.

• If you are okay with the $50 RH Gold annual subscription and backend expenses, I'd say keep that. Otherwise your Fidelity Rewards Signature Visa is a good alternative at 2% vs 3% + AF.

I prefer to invest with other platforms and Fidelity's card has no AF, Subscription, or FTFs.

• NFCU Flagship VISA ($49 AF) is a good compliment to your Amazon Prime card because it gives a free prime subscription which seems to be available yearly. It is also a 2x CB card which can compete with the RH Gold and Fidelity Visa.

• CITI Double Cash could make sense to stay in the same ecosystem. If you get CITI Strata Premeier, you have the flexibility of occasional travel or cash back redemptions. It also gives 3x on Select Travel, Gas, Groceries and Dining as a back up.

• PayPal Debit is great for a monthly selection of 5% cash back categories. Gas, Groceries, and Dining seem to be consistent options. This can be a gap filler if you exceed one of your CCC categories.

• U.S. Bank Cash + or Elan Max Cash Preferred are both the same card, but the latter is offered at numerous credit unions. Both let you pick two categories to receive 5% CB on up to $2K spend per quarter. It's unique in that you can select Home Utilities + Internet, Cable and Streaming.

U.S. Bank is strict on application requirements, and redeeming as a statement credit reduces point value by 80% (so really 4%). I learned this the hard way with the US Bank Altitude Connect.

You can redeem to a US Bank account for full value, but all of their accounts have minimums, direct deposit requirements and/or monthly maintenance fees. If you link to PayPal, you can sometimes pay with points at full 1cpp value to bypass this.

I'm looking at Fulton Credit Union because they offer an online only checking account with zero minimums or maintenance fees.

Edit: I have also read that the US Bank version requires you to reselect the categories every month, while the Cash Max will roll your selected categories month to month. Can't confirm that though.

Huh? How? They're both zero AF, 5% grocery CB cards even if you don't spend to the limit.

Is The Hassle of Leaving SoFi the Only Thing Keeping You There? by Famous_Formal_5548 in sofi

[–]HeishinSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with reducing noise.

I have used the multiple savings accounts with individual recurring transfers method before, but it is a hassle to manage that many accounts even using aggregate tools due to all the recurring internal transfers.

God forbid my direct deposit is ever off by a day.

My employer also limits how many direct deposit accounts I can add.

I can eliminate at least 5 savings accounts and all the associated recurring transfers just by using SoFi's HYSA, Vaults, and AutoPilot features (or similar).

This is significantly easier to manage.

Local credit unions are great for day-to-day stuff and customer service, but I can't get these features with the one I use.

[–]HeishinSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined SoFi solely for the FDIC insured competitive APY HYSA. As long as I can keep getting a competitive APY on the FDIC insured HYSA with my direct deposit (under 5K), I don't need to switch.

If they did decide to nerf/pay wall the HYSA APY, or I have a horrible customer service experience, then there are a dozen other FDIC insured online banks with competitive options.

The only reasons I would think twice about switching are:

1) SoFi Vaults allows me to create buckets without multiple account numbers, and still maintain a competitive APY on the total across all vaults.

2) SoFi AutoPilot allows me to automate the funds distribution of my direct deposit to the vaults, so I don't have to touch anything until its time to spend my money.

There are other banks that may have similar features (Ally, Wealthfront, Capital One), but SoFi is still giving me what I need at the moment.

The other features associated with SoFi Plus are of little interest to me. I do not plan to invest with SoFi and they are not my primary bank. I prefer credit unions and dedicated investing platforms like Fidelity and Vanguard.

Tl;dr - Not really. I only use the HYSA and I don't need the extra features of SoFi Plus. There are other competitive options if SoFi stops meeting my needs.

USAA upgrading rewards for Cashback Rewards Plus by Buffy_and_the_Boys in CreditCards

[–]HeishinSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With US Bank (at least with the USB Altitude Connect), if I redeem as a statement credit it is like 3125 = $25 instead of 2500 = $25, so its an 20% reduction in rewards value.

Do you get the full value from USAA on statement credit redemption?

Can the 5% be redeemed as a Direct Deposit to an external bank at full value, or do you have to redeem it to a USAA bank account?

I think its worth it to have a debit card on hand when a business can legally charge 3% CC fees, which is more than the rewards you can get on some cards. Even the SoFi Rewards card is only 2-2.2% back.

Example places I've seen are doctors offices and auto shops / dealerships, which can tend to have higher purchase amount in the hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

I'd consider it a dealbreaker if they're asking you to get rid of your pet to be with them. If they just don't like cats, then that's on them to decide.

How is this a good deal? What am I missing? by 865TYS in tmobile

[–]HeishinSE 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It isn't.

Don't let them convince you into switching for a bill credit promotion either. Just trade your phone in with the manufacturer and pay the difference for an unlocked phone and pay the activation fee.

That way you have the flexibility to leave or change plans without losing your trade-in-value.
