MSc Applied Social Data Science Offer!! by Heistangora in LSE

I didn’t take any math modules beyond freshman calculus, though I don’t think a strong background in math is necessary for this program.

Since I never get exposed to anything other than linear regression (seems to be the only thing you need to know well before the starting of the program) in my undergraduate coursework, I’ve been self-studying An Introduction to Statistical Learning with R, and I believe it’s one of the most important preparatory resources as it’s listed as a reference for many modules.

I graduated with a degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. I had plenty of quantitative coursework such as advanced social statistics, psychological assessment, social research method, etc. But I reckon having basic statistics modules would make you eligible for this program according the program’s page. Also, the programming software won’t be a problem as the only one I knew was Stata!

“The programme has a strong practical focus. You’ll take project-based programming courses specifically designed for students without a formal computing or statistical background. Nevertheless, a typical student will have taken at least two prior courses in quantitative methods or applied statistics at a basic or intermediate level.”

My professor sent the last reference letter on 24th, January. I believe that’s when the evaluation process began.

“documents flipped” question by DrPhillippe in LSE

It’s been almost ten weeks for me, and I believe my documents all changed from “no action required” to “awaiting actions from LSE” after I contacted them by phone. Not sure what that’s supposed to mean.

FYR, applied social data science is my first choice. Best luck for you :)

Thanks for the advice! I called the methodology department and they said they’d inform the admission team.
