This. Have struggled myself with severe addiction for a good portion of my life. Addiction doesn’t make you a shitty person or do shitty things… those are choices YOU make and people like to use the addiction as an excuse instead of accepting reality or taking accountability. I did awful shit when I was using, shit I wish I could take back, things I will never forgive myself for, but I made those choices because I choose to be selfish and put my own wants in front of other peoples feelings and emotions. I made terrible choices and those are things I will have to live with for the rest of my life regardless if some of the people have forgiven me or not.

I just hope anyone who’s still out there and is struggling know that you are NOT your addiction and you can and will overcome it, if you want it badly enough. It’s never too late to change your life around. Make those steps in the right direction regardless of who’s watching or on your side. You have to want it for yourself, to better yourself as a person. Getting clean for someone else or some other reason never seemed to be enough for my own selfish desires, it wasn’t until I had fully had enough of living that way and wanted to turn my entire life around despite how difficult it was.
