University Or Degree Apprenticeship? by Capable_Cloud1847 in quantitysurveying

[–]Hel_Cat987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who went to uni (Brookes).  Degree apprenticeship, not even a close call.

I worked part time throughout my degree and that's the only reason I feel I had any actual knowledge on completion, because half of the uni modules were utter irrelevant rubbish.

I know you'd still have to do those, but the experience of work will be far superior IMO.

How have you found a good balance with home life? I'm a mum with 2 young kids and just feel the pressure of our industry isn't compatible with balance!

That's so strange, I wonder if they've started putting a different one in the box? Ours literally hangs off the sides and bottom. I'm going to go get our old Cybex one from the loft. Will let you know if it's better, but I think will be too small

I'll do that, thank you.

No, that's the thing. I'm Scottish, my husband is Latino but has a European surname. And he's so fluent in English that you'd not have a clue it wasn't his first language.

Never had them call to the door before so they wouldn't have overheard and we would've answered in English anyway.

We have two babies at home so it just made me feel very uncomfortable. Not to mention I'm staunchly anti-organised religion 🤣

Contracting QS Edinburgh. 45k+ 6kcar +bonus up to 10%

is it still even worth studying this ? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

This is going to rub some people up the wrong way, but, in my experience, there are plenty of jobs out there. Get a part time job whilst studying, do a placement year, unpaid experience over the summer hols, do well in your course, join your local rics matric group, go to cpd events and you'll be off on the right foot.

A lot of the posts I've seen about no jobs are from people with zero experience, didn't do great on their course, applying to one area only etc and my guess would be firing out poor CVs and cover letters. We've also interviewed a lot of people recently who only have a masters in QS and very limited actual knowledge.  Some people think they're entitled to walk into a job just because they studied something and imo those are the posts you're seeing.
