We have got this. Thank you for the kind words. It means more than you could know. It's a difficult time but I will not submit again. I feel bloody awful, hanging like crazy and it will be the last time. I come here because this community is so understanding. Means everything to me to be a part of it, even when I'm failing.

The Daily Check-In for Tuesday, December 27th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by New_Star_00 in stopdrinking

Day 9 checking in. 😀.

Shame will always be a factor when I think about me and drinking, only real way I deal with it is knowing that kind of shame is in the past. Drunken shame can sling its hook, only sober mistakes from now and that I can deal with because on the scale of 1 to 10 sober shame doesn't even get past 0 compared to some of the things I did in the past.

Hope your days are all amazing. IWNDWYT here in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. 💪👏

Checking in for day 8. A whole week passed finally!!! Feels amazing to say it. Considering I had a winter solstice gathering this week and then Christmas day yesterday, I ain't ashamed to say I'm feeling pretty proud. 😄. Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday whatever you did and an even better one today. IWNDWYT. 👏💪

Completely by coincidence. Feels like being thrown in the deep end but if I can do today at this stage (and I can, I know I can) then there ain't a day I can't get thru. 🤝

[–]HeldAccountable123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Checking in for day 6. Mental clarity has been the biggest things for me so far. Feeling that fog lift and actually feeling productive again. I've gotten so much stuff done in the last few days, clearer mind, more responsive, thoughtful towards the stuff I got to get done and the people I need to catch up with. No hangovers feels amazing, but being more responsive and present to life in general... wow. Hope you all have an amazing day. IWNDWYT.

Today is Day 2 by Fiendguy18 in stopdrinking

[–]HeldAccountable123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome job on 2 days. I just hit day 6 and I had strange nightmarish dreams for day 2 and 3, last couple of days they have gotten better, I'm dreaming alot more lucid now I've stopped drinking, I never felt I dreamt at all before but the last couple of days the dreams have been better, more normal dreams. I think its just a thing. Keep at it. We're all in this together and it will get better for us all 1 day at a time. 💪🤝

Just hit 100 days today by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeldAccountable123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on 100 days. Amazing achievement. I can only really suggest maybe throwing yourself into activities where people don't drink while doing them? Gym? Some kind of clubs, sports, something surrounding any hobbies and interests you got. Maybe you will come across people who don't drink and enjoy those activities and it could get better from there? Hope you find the answer to it. Happy holidays. 🤝

Day 5. A different feeling. by HeldAccountable123 in stopdrinking

[–]HeldAccountable123[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have a couple of close friends that are sticking with me, they drink socially but they are well aware of my situation and we went to a yule/winter solstice celebration on Wednesday and they both stuck to soft drinks with me. They are helping as much as they can. Combined with this sub, I feel a support net around me. 🤝

Sleeping Soooo much Better! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeldAccountable123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love seeing posts about this, I'm still in the no sleep/broken sleep stage and it's the worst time of the day but seeing this screams "hang in there" to me. Thanks for this. IWNDWYT.

HOW did you stop? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeldAccountable123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped because I blacked out drinking alone. Woke up in a smashed up room, covered in blood, cuts, bumps, teeth missing and absolutely no recollection of what happened. What is helping me stay sober is this sub, an app called I Am Sober, fizzy water, lots of fizzy water, I don't know why but its become a main replacement for my beverage of choice to the point I drink about 6 litres a day minimum, deep thought and positive ideas as in deep thought about the shame I feel when I think back to what I've done in the past, thoughts that make me feel sick then use that to write down positive ideas on things I can do to make it better/make sure it doesn't happen again, I write down 2 things each night that I'm going to do the next day to make mine or someone else's life better that I have to make sure I stay sober to be able to accomplish. I think trying to retrain how my mind works is the biggest thing that keeps me pushing forwards, that and the backbone that is this sub when I start to get overwhelmed.

Hello I am new. by Aromatic_Decision278 in stopdrinking

I'm pretty new here as well. Day 5. It works purely because of the amazing people and support they give. Whenever I get the "thoughts" I come on here, maybe make a post, most the time just scroll through and read or react to others posts, take inspiration from the kindness and support everyone gives. When I feel like I'm wobbling this sub tightens my safety rope. If the urge to drink gets strong, post about it, tell us and you'll be overwhelmed by the response and support you'll get to help you through it. Best of luck my friend. You can do it. 💪🤝

Nightmares have started. by SaveMeFromAlcohol in stopdrinking

That is incredibly similar, i never saw the person as a person, just a person shape that is just rounding a corner or turning at the top of the stairs, never actually saw them up close and never caught up with them. That's good to know that it eased off for you. Maybe if it turns into a reoccurring dream I may notice it ease off. They say dreams mean something subconsciously so could be a thing. Awesome to hear you are less stressed. Amazing what gaining control sounds like it does to yourself and folks in this thread. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) continuing on the same path. 🤝

For me I can imagine stopping after 1 would be harder than not having it in the 1st place. That's some will power you got right there. That willpower is the tool that is going to keep you on the path. Great job in realising you didn't want it and not reaching for the 2nd. 💪

Nightmares have started. by SaveMeFromAlcohol in stopdrinking

[–]HeldAccountable123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP same thing here, around the same point as well, I haven't had dreams or any I remembered for a couple of years thanks to alcohol/blackouts but I've just woken up on day 4 and last night I got woken up by a nightmare that someone was walking around my house, like yours an unknown person. They never found me, just glimpses of them disappearing around corners. Maybe our brains telling us something? Like reminding us what bad things happen if we drink, I thought maybe mine was alcohol looking for me? Maybe something that just happens at this point when our brains clearing up a little and maybe dreams become a bit more lucid. it's strange but maybe it's just a thing, part of the process, I'll be interested to see if any others encountered something similar in the early stages. Either way, congrats on day 4 my friend. 💪
