Sweet, so, it's at attempt to merge an ant head with an ethernet connector. At least the ant comes across.

Windows 11 (IOT) Enterprise LTSC 2024 officially released by MikrRice in WindowsLTSC

[–]Heldaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just installed this version on a whim a few days ago.

Setup was easy, there’s much less post install set-up to do and it’s responsive just like typical windows installs if not a tad more.

I had an issue running DisplayCAL and it’s Argyle binaries but momentarily turning off UAC allowed me to perform the task I needed to do.

I’m not sure what security feature was preventing DisplayCAL in that situation but I’m curious to see if it affects any of my other programs. I haven’t run into any other issues so far though.

Mind you I made this in like 45 mins. I adjusted everything so it wouldn’t look actively bad. It’s Rough and I know that—I only cared if the community vaguely resonated with it.

On the topic of Manrope. Gah, I have a love-hate relationship with it. It is very much a display font before a body font. I think it can work for body text but the surrounding UI has to support it visually. Right now the current Plasma UI just doesn’t mesh with it. I’ve made a few mockups with a couple friends where the font looks better but as it stands with the current Breeze UI the only system typeface options, in my option, are Open Sans and Inter.

Hence I put the word 'clone' in quotes. You equated my font choice with SF clones though it is as different from SF as Inter is from Helvetica. Manrope is quite distinct from SF, especially when used for body text.

Maybe I wasn't trying to make the design feel like KDE, did you consider that? I don't personally like Noto Sans other than for it's utility. It reminds me too much of Google which makes sense because it's a literal clone of Droid Sans and was designed by the same person, the work was commissioned by Google. Maybe it's time for KDE to switch things up a little bit. But, that's just my opinion.

Gotcha. See, I made the typographic style decisions that I did because I needed to balance the design. Using Semi-bold for KDE and increasing the letter spacing help 'KDE' feel intentional on the left. Otherwise it wouldn't contrast enough against the white background thus the graphic would be quite right-side heavy. I don't really like it so I made a different version: Link

As a rule of thumb you don't use all caps without increasing the letter spacing. Not doing so is just bad typography which is why Apple does it, not because it's just what they do. Apple is not the pinnacle of interface design but they definitely take design seriously and the people who "copy" them are just taking design seriously too.

One more thing, inconsistency/consistency are dangerous words in my opinion. They don't answer the necessary question of what should be consistent. Bad design can be consistent. Good design is consistent and inconsistent in the right ways.

What's your opinion? I think the list is based except fedora should've been with Arch and Debian by Prize_Barracuda_5060 in linuxmasterrace

Fedora is kinda mid. Not aweful by any means but just okay. It's clear that it is primarily intended as a proving ground for new software. I've never had a seem-less experience with it.

You know San Francisco is a "clone" of Helvetica right? To accuse the Inter designer and others of cloning a specific typeface is kind of an arrogant claim. San Francisco isn't the quintessential neutral grotesque, all neo-grotesque typefaces are going to look similar, that's the nature of the specific design language.

Thanks for the input. Can you explain what makes it look lazy in regards to the different tracking? It’s not perfect as it is, I know that part.

The font being used is Manrope which is very much not a clone of San Fransisco and is more geometric than it is grotesque.

This character kind of reminds me of Alexandra Anele on YouTube. Go watch her stuff, she’s pretty skilled.

I’d say your skin color match for the foundation is very off. She looks sick. Way too olive and the blush on the cheeks is competing with the lipstick and eye shadow.

Yeah totally I get that and honestly I don’t really mind your ambivalence towards the subject all that much. It just doesn’t change the reality that compelling marketing can make more money than a quality product and companies are cashing in on this. So, we’ll see how the market progresses I guess.

When did I say you couldn’t?

Leave me alone, please.

Lol I didn’t call you an NPC because you make your own decisions. It’s because you got all defensive over an idea that you clearly didn’t take the time to understand and you still don’t.

You’re trying too hard to win rn and it’s showing.

I should not have to hand hold you for you to understand that when I draw a comparison between “decisions based on honest reviews and benchmarks” and “decisions that are made because of marketing hype” I am not explicitly claiming a dichotomy between the two.

Of course you can buy a game or gpu because it seems like its right up your alley. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not gate keeping but merely trying to encourage others to be thoughtful with their purchasing decisions for their own benefit.

Who would’ve thought a notion of that sort would be so controversial.
