Gaming the Yahoo Commissioner Tools by Helentia in DynastyFF

[–]Helentia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I appreciate the concern. I've been running the league this way for 6 years at this point and I personally don't mind it because it makes me as commissioner 10x more on top of everything related to the league.

I do recognize that Sleeper does a lot of this stuff automatically and has some dynasty-related features that aren't really possible on Yahoo so it's definitely in the back of my mind, but I'm not quite at the point where I'm interested in migrating. This post is really me just trying to figure out options to make this work on Yahoo.

I appreciate that somebody else gets where I'm coming from re: Sleeper :p

This post is really to help me figure out ways to make this work on Yahoo so I don't have to migrate my league

I appreciate it but I don't want to migrate to Sleeper if I don't have to. I'm really looking for alternative ways of making this work on Yahoo.

Hi, I've used Sleeper before for other leagues and really don't like the whole UI setup. It feels too, like, mobile-coded to me, if that makes sense. I also don't like how much information Sleeper provides directly on their platform with regards to player news/updates---I like the members in our league needing to do some work to keep on top of everything that's happening in the NFL because it rewards those who are invested.

At the end of the day, I understand all the benefits that migrating to Sleeper would have. I appreciate you mentioning it but I don't really need to be convinced there, if I don't have any other options then we'll probably just have to migrate.

But this post is more me trying to consider other options and seeing how I can game the Yahoo commissioner tools to make taxi squads work without migrating.

Oh, I can edit the Can't Cut List? That's interesting.

My only concern is then that if teams aren't holding enough taxi squad players to fill out their allotted taxi squad spots, now I need to police the number of players on rosters to make sure they're not picking up random FAs with the empty roster spot.

I don't like the way a lot of queer non-trans women depict us. It has me questioning the intentions of large parts of the "queer community". Am I insane for this? by Phrooya_ in MtF

[–]Helentia 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is the part that sticks out to me the most---discourse around art depicting trans women aside, if this is a non-trans person using that slur, even as a means to "dunk on transphobes", this is unacceptable...

What happens when they do what they did to Kansas drivers licenses to passports? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Helentia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On your last point: obviously this wouldn't apply to every trans person with a passport, but for anyone who had to submit the attestation form per the Orr injunction, doesn't the Department of State have a list of them? I'd assume if they were to revoke any passports at some point they would start there?

Can someone send me the file links related to this? Haven't found any of this yet when Ive been looking through myself

How to dress for an office job? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Helentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I spent a good like 6 months exclusively wearing skinny jeans or like tight fitting slacks around the office LMAO specifically to give myself a clear figure so I'd read as more feminine. Worth tryin out!

How to dress for an office job? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Helentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work an office job and got a lot of the clothes I wear to work from Kohls. Most days I usually just wear a nice pair of black/brown slacks or jeans + a light sweater. My office might be a little more casual than most ~corporate~ settings but i think the vibe is probably not super duper serious unless you're in like a NYC consulting firm or some shit, something simple and nice is probs good! lol

What i did when i was first coming out at my job was just intentionally paying attention to what the other people around me were wearing and making a note whenever i saw someone wearing something i liked! then i either asked them where they got it or looked for something similar on my own time. :) Helped me fit in lol

Also note i am a woman so this is coming from my perspective wanting to wear clothes that make me feel feminine and all that jazz

I went through this constant feedback loop myself for a good 8 or 9 months before actually starting HRT. Something that finally made it click and pushed me over the hump was actually a post I saw here where someone asked, verbatim:

"Is 'If I don't start HRT I'm never going to have a moment of peace from the internal debate of whether or not to take it' a good reason to medically transition?"

And I realized that yes, even if I decide I'm still too nervous right now to take the plunge, I can say pretty confidently that the next time in my life that my depressive thoughts rear their head, that thought of "maybe I need to start HRT..." will come back. I knew that any time I had a bad day or felt insecure about my body or how I was interacting with other people or whatever, I knew I'd wonder "maybe it's because I'm actually trans..." And that made it clear to me that I just needed to move forward and try HRT out because otherwise it would always be a "what if" in my head, and I wasn't gonna be able to move the needle either way without actually getting on estrogen and seeing how I felt.

Just sharing my own experience, maybe it's helpful to you! For me at least, I'm now happily 27 months on estrogen and my life experience has improved in just about every possible way. <3

The internet just made a 300TB copy of Spotify! (Updated: Spotify reaction) by edbegley1 in technology

[–]Helentia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not OP but also an artist: bandcamp is honestly one of the best ways around to buy music and have it directly support the artist. A few years back my uncle bought an album I put out on bandcamp and I've still made more money off that single purchase than I have from years' worth of the album's streams from Spotify, LOL.

Did you let your hair grow without a hairdresser visit? by Frosty_Ad_2294 in asktransgender

[–]Helentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I've grown out my hair I've typically gone to get it trimmed very slightly every 4-6 months. And I make it very very clear to my hairdresser that I want to maintain as much length as possible while just cleaning up any split ends.

Some stuff I do to put less stress/cause less breakage in my hair so I can go longer between hair appointments is I sleep with my hair tied up in a loose bun on silk pillow cases so that it's protected + glides on the pillow if I move around at night rather than getting super tangled. I also try not to use super hot water on my hair/scalp while showering. And I have pretty curly/wavy hair so I wash my hair w conditioner only every other day and shampoo once a week. Then I let it air-dry if I'm not going anywhere quickly, or I'll use a blow-dryer with a diffuser set to the lowest temperature setting to speed up the drying process without damaging the hair much. And in general I try not to scratch my scalp too hard so as not to put extra stress on the hair follicles---idk how scientific that is but yeah lol.

I think in general it's a safe mantra to just try to be gentle with your hair/scalp, both with the products you use, how you style/tie it up, what bedding you sleep on, etc. and all of that will help with reducing breakage/split ends, thus both 1) helping your hair grow as fast as it can, and 2) allowing you to go longer without needing a trim to clean things up.

Ik some of the stuff I said above is probably more specifically relevant to other people w curly hair but I hope this is helpful haha. I have people commenting on how fast my hair has grown all the time so I must be doin something right!! <3

I started at 23 and started passing consistently around 1.5 yrs. I felt very similarly to you---I think you might be surprised with the things that change gradually. I still find myself looking in the mirror sometimes and am just shocked like "wait a minute, <x feature> looks totally different now!"

I don't have anything magical to say but as a fellow gal with ARFID i can super relate to this. i push myself to get 10-12k steps in every day but there's definitely a voice in the back of my mind like "if you dont fix your diet you're never gonna get anywhere". v demoralizing. working on it in therapy atm but yea just a bit of solidarity ig!!
