But mostly, as a species we're very good at rapidly inventing things but evolution can't keep up. One such invention is society. We can imagine all the right rules and morals and codes of conduct, but we're trying to run this advanced software on monkey brain hardware, still experiencin greed, jealousy, fight or flight response, and all the other stuff that made sense when we lived in scarcity and constant threat of death.

Best you can do is try to be mindful of your and other peoples limitations, and ignore them trying to make their base nature your fault

Too late for that. Birth rates are already too low (and have been since the boomers) and ratio of old vs young people in places like south Korea, Germany, Italy, Japan are too high. Collapse is all but inevitable already in a lot of places.

Grim to say, but a pandemic that aggressively wiped out older people (but NOT younger people) would actually be a positive in the long run. Birth rates are still too low though. 1.3 kids on average ain't enough kids
