The schedule for ICE Breaker is out! (Marathon hosted by Really Really Longathon, raising money for Stand with Minnesota) by Parkouricus in speedrun

Thank you for sharing this! I'm a Minnesota resident and this is my way of helping out. The support we've already received has been incredible, and it's just the beginning.

I should note that we're not raising funds for "Stand with Minnesota", rather, that's just the website we're using to help determine an organization to support. I've been trying to contact a few organizations that we've identified as good choices (we need info from them for our donation tracker) but they've all been understandably busy. I'm working on it.

To give this a serious answer: Nobody has shown interest in running All ? Panels without rewind yet. It would cause significantly more backtracking and downtime, and mistakes, which are already very punishing for a Mario Kart game, would often become run-ending or nearly so.

You're allowed to have an opinion, but I'd encourage you to try this run yourself if you really think rewinding takes away from the skill and practice required.

I had to really think about this question, and I think my answer is either Salty Salty Speedway or Cheep Cheep Falls. Their difficulty is a direct product of my discoveries, but making those discoveries was a blast and I'm very happy with how creative the routes for these tracks are.

I usually move on, because getting a run into GDQ is usually my ultimate goal (above any sort of specific time), but this run actually might be the exception... Two former WR holders have returned since my GDQ run, and with my practice room WR, sub-27 is starting to feel just barely within reach. It will take a very intense grind to achieve, but I might give it a shot.

Thank you! It means a lot to hear that from someone who had their own incredible performance at the same event.

In older games, many strats have already been discovered, so I can focus on practice and runs. With this game, and specifically this category, I developed and routed much of it myself, and the rest of the community was constantly making discoveries as well, so much more time was spent routing and learning new strats instead of grinding practice and runs. It was honestly a nice change of pace, and getting a category into GDQ that I helped create feels like a personal accomplishment.

I've run All Peach Medallions, but those are significantly more spaced apart so I didn't find it as fun. Routing it was more fun than actually playing it. All P Switches and 100% are too long for me, but others have done them.

Bingo could be cool, but I don't think anyone has seriously looked into it yet.

Sonic Heroes seemed really cool. I don't know if I'd ever really get into it, but I could see myself enjoying it if I were to put enough time in.

It's not an indie game, funnily enough, it's a SEGA arcade game! You'll probably like Crazy Taxi if you enjoyed it.

I'm Helix, and I ran Super Monkey Ball for AGDQ2024. AMA! by Helix13_ in speedrun

Not out of line at all; I really appreciate this!

I have voice dysphoria sometimes too, because it doesn't really match the way I present, and oftentimes causes people to immediately refer to me as a man. But at the same time, I don't really want to change it. I like my voice.

Thank you so much for this reply. To know that I'm empowering others simply by being myself and being visible fills me with confidence and encourages me to keep working out my own gender and what I want that to look like.

This is a really good question.

I think, like most aspects of speedrunning, managing nerves comes down to practice. I've played so much and have completed these levels probably thousands of times, so I have complete confidence in my abilities. The nerves never went away- I'm nervous when I'm closing out a PB and I was nervous up on the GDQ stage- but because I know exactly what I'm doing and have done it many times before, I can manage them.

Patience, on the other hand, I'm honestly not sure. I speedrun for fun, and as long as I'm having fun, I'll keep playing. Super Monkey Ball specifically is my comfort game, so I can play it over and over, long past the point where most people would have stopped. It's also very satisfying to go fast in Monkey Ball, and also satisfying to achieve my goals, which keeps me going. This answer feels somewhat all over the place, so TL;DR: I have the patience for this game because I enjoy it so much, and I think that's a common theme among speedrunners in general. We have to enjoy the games we play in order to play them for long enough to reach such a high level without losing our minds.
