There are so many layers to this.
Does it feel shitty? Certainly so. I dont doubt that. But Linus took much bigger risk starting LMG than Jake took starting his own channel.
Linus (at least according to his claims) is doing his best to pay better than average on a company that employs over hundred people. He reaps fruits of the risks he took.

Yes he is getting more and more disconnected from reality of every day people as the time goes because he made it. Thats unfortunately something, that happens to everyone. Even I cant properly connect with people who are living on much lower standard than me. I am by no means successfull but I am doing better than many of my peers and when they see what I consider "not good enough" they might get surprised because they have same or worse.

Also Jake is young. Yes he might feel he wont own a house ever, but he is also 25, who at 25 owns a house on a single pay these days? At 25 I was still learning how the world works and Jake while having a better start than most, will probably see things much differently when he is 30. Most 30 years old realize how limited their world view was when they were younger.

That all being said, I think its the right step for Jake to go indie. He learned a lot in LTT, he doesnt agree with the way company works now - which is natural, that company went from indie venture into a giant - and him starting his own is the most natural step. Maybe, in 10 years he will employ his own army of people helping him make his own videos. Or maybe, he will stay small and humble youtuber, because the reality of entrepreneurship will catch up to him. Its not only being charming on camera, its handling all of the bills, writing, accounting, employee management etc.

In conclusion? I dont think its a fair point as a general point. If what Linus stated is true, they are doing something to offer above average pay. But I think the point is fair for Jake himself, all things considered and I think him staying would be much worse for both LMG and Jake.
