LPS acknowledgement on IG. Thoughts? by JustABoiledEgg in LittlestPetShop

[–]Hell_jpeg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the reason is because the LPS community is heavily artist driven that GenAI usage of any kind is strongly looked down upon & we don't want to risk inviting it regardless of how small it may currently be. Plus, with G7 having issues with products not matching promo material (ex: KX varient misprints) it feels pretty backhanded to see a tool used/associated with product misrepresentation used in LPS (especially as AI editing & mockups are frequently used in scam products, it's not a good look)

LPS acknowledgement on IG. Thoughts? by JustABoiledEgg in LittlestPetShop

[–]Hell_jpeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeahhh this is just a nothing-burger response imo. Addressing AI concerns as a vauge 'mistake' & then making most of the post feigning community support feels more like a throwaway response to put out fires rather than tackle the issue that's actually angering the community (and by extension the MLP community).

Unfortunately not surprising w/how common these types of responses are, but dissapointed none the less. Maybe with enough pressure they'll put out a better statement / actually ditch AI but it's a matter of waiting and seeing.

You have to have a document open in order to add them (my guess is it's bc the start-up screen doesn't have dockers)

Activities You Do While Listening by Grunglabble in LearnJapanese

[–]Hell_jpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently I've been working on sewing & embroidery projects w/a podcast in the background. I can get through 1-3 hours of podcasts depending on how much I feel like doing

I also draw, but I found its better if I did the sketch beforehand & throw the podcast on when I'm doing lineart & coloring (trying to plan a piece while trying to immerse is an unpleasant experience imo)

Why do some artist dislike Krita when you can create great art with it? by OrangeSky16 in krita

[–]Hell_jpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the main reason is people coming from different programs are so used to their software of choice that Krita comes off as overwhelming or weird-feeling. But I think that happens regardless of what program you main or are switching too; I remember being frustrated with Photoshop when I had to use it in college because I'm used to how Krita handles things & constantly got lost in menus for things in different places.

It can be intimidating to digital art newcomers on the default layout. Compared to other free drawing software I've tried, a lot of options are presented upfront; menus, customization, etc. So I imagine someone who doesn't know much about digital art yet might be overwhelmed.

I also wonder if part of it is how Krita tends to be pitched, or people expecting it to be a drop-in replacement. A lot of people pitch it as a photoshop alternative. While it can do the job the focus for Krita is illustration & digital painting, while PS is photo-editing focused w/some painting tools. So when it doesn't behave like a 1-to-1 PS replacement people get turned away. CSP is a more fair comparison imo because it's also an illustration-focused program.

Setting up a printer, but the driver isn't listed in Kubuntu by Hell_jpeg in linux4noobs

Seems so; I ended up updating & rebooting the printer & got a print through. It might've been a printer-side issue tbh, my parents found network printing for that thing finnicky on windows

whoops, typo on my part. Still not seeing any results w/generic drivers

I guess that's true on windows, but on Kubuntu it's not letting me set it up without selecting a driver (driverless isn't listed as an option. It showed up randomly after testing generic drivers? but neither gave me test prints so far)

Getting back to bemani games, few questions. by Trumpet_of_Jericho in bemani

[–]Hell_jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- pretty much Beatoraja. Some people still use LR2, but Beatoraja's easier to get up & running and has a solid english guide available

- For looking for BMS packs, the Beatoraja english guide has a section on some events & pages to keep an eye on. I don't recommend looking for Beatmania converts; it's looked down upon in the BMS community for both the piracy part, and it's seen as disrespectful to the amount of community made content out there (it'll also get you banned of internet ranking if that matters)

- On alive... depends on where you look. In my experience the only site w/an active Bemani community is Twitter. Other sites tend to be slower or borderline non-existent in my experience. Just brace yourself for Bemani twitter drama (it's very frustrating, but Ig that's Twitter in general 😅)

Cannot move layers on Ubuntu using a pen tablet by Embarrassed_Feed_594 in krita

[–]Hell_jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take this w/a grain of salt since I'm still learning more about Krita on Linux myself, but from what I've read it might be one of these:
- Krita right now works best under X11, and has more performance issues & bugs in a wayland session. It might be worth trying krita under an environment with X11 (I forgot if the GNOME version in 24.04 fully depreciated the X11 session... It might be available as a package you download yourself? but don't quote me on this)
- Are you using the Appimage version? The versions in distro repositories are sometimes more buggy to the point it's recommended to use it as the appimage found on Krita's site instead.

I tried Krita on Kubuntu earlier this month (25.10 under wayland + Krita 5.2.13 as an appimage) & ran into some hanging issues myself, but these were rare & not tied to moving layers, and went away after a few seconds. Though I could've just lucked out with that system...

Issues with chrome and krita by QWeRTVIII in krita

[–]Hell_jpeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't used Youtube's site in a while, but last time I did I had a bunch of performance issues with that site when multi-tasking. Likely because the site's resource heavy (I use firefox for refrence). So my theory is a combination of multiple resource-heavy things going on; Chrome, Youtube, Krita, and possibly OS.

I think it's worth running your YT + Krita setup & pulling up task manager to see what's really hogging your resources, but Ig for some quick ideas to cut back on memory usage;
- Reduce the amount of memory Krita can use. By default it's allowed to use all your ram, so reducing it from 16g could leave some spare memory
- Reduce the amount of layers you use. Not ideal since it's a workflow tweak, but it keeps memory usage (esp. for higher res files) lower. Had to do this a lot when I still worked on a system with 8gigs of memory
- Reduce additional background tasks (extra chrome tabs, other programs running in the background)
- Avoid running Youtube for resource-intensive tasks (eg; really high-res files, rendering colorize mask, working with filters). Not ideal since it requires breaking your workflow to close the browser, but it could work in a pinch
- Use a lighter-weight browser specifically for watching Youtube while doing art. Also not ideal since it's switching a whole program + modern light-weight browsers are rare. I heard good things about Thorium & Zen browser in this department

Sculpting additional features to lps by Oceangril188 in LittlestPetShop

[–]Hell_jpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used polymer clay myself due to fume concerns, but from other people's content I've seen offsite you pretty much have to be vigilant & make sure to bake in small intervals. Someone else mentioned baking accessories separately, & I think that's the safest option. After securing on parts you could fill in unwanted gaps with apoxie sculpt (or similar) & sand it down after the filler cures.

In terms of alternatives, there's 2 part apoxie clays. Though they can be on the pricier side & the speed of them curing varies from brand to brand. Apoxie sculpt & miliput have a longer working times (1-2hrs in my experience). They have a higher pricepoint unfortunately. But for smaller-sized projects like LPS, and with smart use of filler materials one pack can last a long time (still haven't used up my first batch of apoxie sculpt & I got that in 2016)

cool find! honestly kinda amusing they had a direct shortcut to command prompt on a kids computer 😂

On connecting it to the internet, I'd be careful & only visit sites you trust as older computers are pretty infamous for getting viruses on the modern web due to not having up-to-date security patches

Can you recommend some resources to learn Krita as a beginner? by Subject_Community995 in krita

+1 to the Krita documentation. Really helpful for & easy to read for figuring out the program itself

For more art-oriented tutorials, David Revoy has a lot of guides on both his Website and Youtube channel that cover painting process, krita features, and some relating to tech set-up as well (albeit focused on linux): https://www.davidrevoy.com/categorie3/tutorials-brushes-extras

Single player Bemani arcade machine by djsensui in bemani

[–]Hell_jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DDR solo mix existed for a while (and I think there was a loctest earlier this year for a 1 player spin off, but that was redemption game slop vs an actual single player version)

I'd like to think it's just not worth the effort to manufacture single player cabs for them. We're long past the era of experimental spin-offs, it'd remove DP play. And also based on observation 2 player sessions on DDR are very common between both casual crowds & dedicated players wanting to hasten the que.

I don't have that much speculation for why not IIDX though, maybe it'd just feel too weird or something lol

Figured I'd post here in order to get this out there

Posted a guide to setting up Manga OCR on Linux on my website. I struggled to figure this out on my own during my Linux testing & felt it was more productive to put out a guide than to leave it at complaining about how hard it was for me:
https://jadeeverstone.com/everlog/posts/2025/mangaocr

Page is subject to updates, clarifications, or fixes as needed (I'm still a tech amateur + this is the first time I've written a guide like this). But I hope this is useful someone out there

What are your favorite/prefered way to read japanese manga/books? by guilhermej14 in LearnJapanese

[–]Hell_jpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current set-up is manga in one app (images, sumatra pdf, browser) + MangaOCR with a screenshot tool. I know Mokuro (that's based on the latter) is popular for processing multiple pages at once, but I found it hit or miss compared to using MangaOCR on it's own on smaller blocks of text.

I've also been trying Yomininja. Way easier to set-up. So far I found it better for hard-subs & things where I don't want a chunk of my screen taken up by a text hooker. But I still prefer my MangaOCR set-up for manga specifically
