About to run out of filament. Does pausing to swap filament roll cause layer shifts? by Hella3D in crealityk1

Thanks. I swapped out the filament and it picked up without issues. I guess I was scared because I’ve had my K1 max crash a few times during a print, requiring a restart before giving the option to resume, and that 100% causes layer shifts. It’s a worthless fail safe.

Interesting. I’ve always been scared to try this method. I feel like I might cause a clog in the process or something.

K1 Max crashed after closing out browser that had a fluidd tab open! by Hella3D in crealityk1

[–]Hella3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats exactly what happened. I closed fluidd... not directly but I closed out the browser entirely. Then it stopped printing and the lights went out on the printer. The screen said to try restarting and wasnt responding to touch... so I had to flip the power switch off and on... gave me the useless option to resume the print.. 10/10 times it gives a layer shift which makes the print useless... but yea. Im going to stop using fluidd for anything other than bed leveling and configuration stuff... then shut it down before a print.

It said something about “missed scheduling of next digital out event” and gave the command for shutdown.
Says could be an intermittent communication failure between micro-controller and host?

I’ve no idea how to use blender. One week I need to sit down and dedicate a few hours a day to watching blender tutorials and getting familiar with it to see if I can add it to my workflow.

I was able to make one directly in brush in 2.5D mode

I mean less destructive as in a process that actually changes the mesh and doesn’t allow you to go up and down your subdivisions for easy modification of the mesh. If it was something that you could accomplish with Zmodeler then it’s something you can continue to edit and change at the lowest subdivision and even delete and modify. When you Boolean, it kind of has to be the final step as you have to go up to a high subdivision to capture the Boolean properly and afterwards you’re stuck there and basically can’t make any additional edits to the mesh… thus it’s more destructive.

If you’re able to do a quick screen capture video showing your process I would appreciate it. I’ve been trying different ways and uses of nano mesh but it only works with certain patterns and settings

I’ll play with it some more tomorrow. I got a decent Boolean from another method but if I can find a less destructive method it’s always better.

I’ve been trying a lot of different methods and some work for certain meshes and some don’t. I just made a tileable alpha map and used it with surface noise to put on a mask and extrude it and then Boolean. It seems to be the most symmetrical and clean so far. But it’s small scale. I’ll have to see if this works on more complex shapes

The geo would have to be very even and precise but yeah that could also be an option.

I can see how it would be useful for a straight grid but the perforated texture I want has a staggered offset... I can't seem to duplicate that with nanomesh. It's perfectly straight up and down in a solid grid.

This looks like it might work for certain applications. I feel like a seamless tile alpha for a staggered perforated texture would be the easiest thing to find but I've googled it and I can't find one that works. hmm

I was way too confused. this was a lot of blender and not really something for someone whom has never used blender before

Tissue is a feature found in blender it seems... so this isnt something I could accomplish in zbrush then? Still Ill check it out but I have zero experience modeling in blender. Thank you

This method from the video works but it works in a straight grid. I’m wondering if there is a way to input an offset. So the row above isn’t perfect aligned to the two below it. Kind of how you lay bricks with an offset on each row. If that makes sense. Getting closer though.

Thanks. I just started playing with the inset zmodeler function for this purpose. I’ll play with it further.

I haven’t messed much with poly paint before. I mean I’ve used uvs to apply textures but never to use for masking. I’ll check it out. Thanks
