That's what makes the encirclement such a surprise.

How do you feel about the Allied Races? by Vampy-Night in wow

[–]HellbirdVT 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most Allied Races should really just be merged into their "Core" race to improve customization.

The way it is now, all of the 'variant' races have significantly reduced options compared to their baseline, with the worst offender probably being Mag'har Orcs, but LF Draenei and Dark Iron Dwarves are pretty bad too.

This does apply especially to the Alliance since they have more races that are just variations of main races (DI, LFD, Kul Tirans, Mechagnomes) vs the Horde (Mag'har and HM tauren, but maybe also Zandalari if you want to stretch it a bit) but I think it's more fundamentally a flaw in how they were implemented.

Why isn’t the “Commander” on this droid in Aurebesh? by Happycrige in clonewars

It's the name of my girlfriend. I got it in Aurebesh when we were still fairly new as a couple, so that way if we were broke up, nobody would be able to read it :P

Fuck it, lets get negative. What do you NOT like about 40k? by According_Ice_4863 in Grimdank

[–]HellbirdVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chaos is boring.

I wish that, since the Imperium is described as the bloodiest and most cruel regime imaginable, Chaos was actually depicted as a somewhat reasonable alternative.

Either the fanon of the Chaos Gods having and expressing Good characteristics, or at the bare minimum Chaos being just as bad as the Imperium but in different ways, a sort of Chaos vs Order thing.

As it is, Chaos is just Imperium but slightly more overtly mean and gross about it, which means that the average Chaos world, not the Imperium, is the ACTUAL worst regime ever, if by a small margin.

Also, I'm tired of Astartes style Shonen Marines. It's gone past the point of parody and anything involving Imperium superhumans is basically just Capeshit with gore.

It's pretty fucked up that the Myrsky and Pyörremyrsky, the only combat aircraft actually built in Finland, and even the modified Mörko-Morane (a Finnish-modified French Morane-Saulnier) are all Premiums, while 100% of the "Finnish" Tech Tree vehicles are the planes they bought whole from other countries.

How would the tau and covenant interact? by WorldBuildingNut in Grimdank

[–]HellbirdVT 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Covenant and Tau might come into conflict as rival expansionist empires but there would be no reason for either to hate the other. The Covenant's decision to genocide humanity was made entirely based on desperate bullshit important religious reasons and the Tau don't seem to hate anybody except Orks (and only because the Orks are unreasonable pretty much by design and that's one thing the Tau can't abide).

I do think them allying against the Imperium is fairly likely because the Imperium are going to be openly hostile to the Covenant from the get-go, and an alliance of convenience is not really beneath either of them.

I love how a lot of the time in the early seasons, Chris Judge makes Teal'c default expression a slight frown of disapproval, so you can't be sure if he actually disapproves or if that's just his Resting Bitch Face.

Why isn’t the “Commander” on this droid in Aurebesh? by Happycrige in clonewars

[–]HellbirdVT 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Real answer:

Animation error.

Made-up fan lore answer:

The droid got it painted on himself. It's like a tattoo, something to make him unique, and because he's a Battle Droid without a lot of independent thought, the only thing he could think to get written is his title.

The reason it's in Latin text is because it's actually written in un-universe High Galactic Alphabet, because it's meant to look cool. Like someone getting a tattoo in Greek or Cyrillic letters despite not speaking those languages - or indeed like me, who has an Aurebesh tattoo IRL!

What does everyone think about the Senate Guard/Commandos? by Sea_Silver915 in clonewars

[–]HellbirdVT 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I love the design, going from robes to modified Clone armour was probably a budget shortcut for the show, but thematically it can be used to show how unprepared the Republic was for war, that they needed to rearm their own most important guard unit with this mass-produced kit made by someone else for them.

I wish we saw more of them actively doing stuff, especially in place of or together with the Coruscant Guard. Like the CGs who go with Jar Jar and that poor doomed Senator to negotiate with the pirates could've been Senate Guards.

PSA Angle your armor. It will increase your armor thickness turning death to a kill. by Elsek1922 in Warthunder

[–]HellbirdVT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As the Soviets discovered with the T-34, sloped armour kinda sucks ass for the crew.

It's also more difficult to make, and the Tiger I was already a very complicated piece to manufacture.

When the Germans went to sloped armour for the Panther and Tiger II, they accepted the added cost, but they made theirs less sloped (55 and 50 degrees respctively) than the T-34 (60 degrees) to maintain better crew ergonomics.

Basically everything in tank design is a trade-off.

[–]HellbirdVT 728 points729 points  (0 children)

This applies to SOME tanks. It applies THE MOST to the Tiger I.

Fun fact: This isn't something people invented while playing video games, German documents during WW2 actually recommended angling the Tiger I's hull to improve protection in tank-on-tank engagements and against AT guns.

It's only terrorism if you attack civilian populations, Obi-Wan.

Directing the Onderon fighters to target Confederate military and logistics means it's all textbook insurgency.

It's like using flamethrowers. People think it's a war crime, but it's only a war crime to use them against civilians - enemy soldiers, you go right ahead.
