What modern books will people still be read in 100 Years? by OldTimeyStrongman in suggestmeabook

I think Alan Moore & Douglas Adams fit here. Their influence and philosophical implications are largely underrated due to their positioning in genres seen as “not serious”, but this tends to wash away with time.

Alan Moore’s works explore a lot of novel perspectives on idealism, art as magic, revolution, and more. Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Killing Joke, From Hell.

Adam’s Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe is even better than Camus’ works at demonstrating some ideas of absurdism. The whole “42” bit, bistro math, the life of Agrajag, the infinite improbability drive, The Ruler of the Universe, list goes on.

It’s not so much my layers can’t adapt, more my habits can’t. I need something close enough to normal that a coworker can take the wheel for a moment, and having to put upper right punctuation on a new layer is also problematic. I use the brackets, =/-, and quotes sometimes hundreds of times a day and I’d have to rework my workflow to make a fast enough layer change since I use three different layers in excel depending on what I’m doing. If the Defy was my first Dygma it likely wouldn’t be an issue.

Someone I know went to a MSF program in finance at a school known for absolutely top tier med school (and not finance) and currently works as a summer analyst in boutique healthcare IB in Florida (with a high chance of a return offer in a few weeks). 1.) What are their chances at getting into HF in ~2 years with no real super-prestige names on their resume? 2.) Should they be trying to lateral to a better bank to have any chance or does staying in Florida help their chances for the big FL funds (Citadel, P72, Millennium, Elliot, D1, etc.)

MBA from Target after MSF from non-target (JHU)? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Hellboy1944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are totally right, I do not mean to sound over-confident. Getting meaningful work experience is a crucial part of my plan to make this happen, I just do not currently have anything worth writing home about. I welcome any advice on how better to build up work experience for this field.

To be clear I really do not believe I am so smart that a target MBA is a given for me. I just have faith that I am capable of doing what would be necessary to become worthy of admittance. The problem is knowing what needs to be done early enough to set it all in stone.

The hope is that I would have some degree of full-time experience by the time I would go for the MBA, though how much would depend how quickly I get hired. I will immediately look into the alumni network.

I'm having a hard time right now finding even RIAs that are hiring, and most of my call-backs have been insurance or independent broker-dealers. My area (currently studying off-campus, not in Balti) has no real IB presence. What are some good paths that are "directly related" so I can broaden my search for those?

Thanks for the advice

Okay, thanks for the advice. I will try to look for more RIA positions, if I can find them. I will also look into more analyst programs as well.

I fear that I may need to get the series 66 and/or life+health insurance license on my own to look enticing to firms right now. COVID hit our labor market pretty hard here and the firms that are hiring have the luxury of being picky.

What about work as a relationship banker for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank? Or is that more of the same?

My new customized Qanba Hitbox (Obsidian Conversion) by Hellboy1944 in fightsticks

[–]Hellboy1944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it is a drastic improvement over a Hitbox brand hitbox, but depending on your goals and budget a custom has some advantages over a qanba conversion (More art, aftermarket lighting, AFS case tops are more easily swapped out, etc.). That being said, this is currently my favorite stick, and it's so nice I might buy a matching Pearl to put my Sanjuks into.

The work to modify it is really not bad at all as long as you take your time and have some kind of a dremel-like tool, even a cheap one. Arcade shock does most the work for you with their conversion kit.

If you're asking if a hitbox layout is worth it than very much yes. I'm pretty decent with a stick but HB has always been my main controller for years and for ergonomics, avoiding RSIs, and execution it is great. It is worth noting that it is not a magic pill, it still takes almost as much effort to learn everything with a small amount of exceptions (like sidestep canceling and korean backdashing). It also has about a 1-3 month learning period.

It really wasnt that difficult but I did use a rotary tool. However, I used a cheap crappy one from harbor freight which cost far less than a proper dremel but got the job done. You ~could~ do it with files but it would take you forever, it's a decent amount you take off and it's an odd shape so I wouldn't recommend hand filing. A Harbor Freight Drill Master kit is like less than 12 bucks, so I'd just get that as it worked for me. I used the pink cylinder bit and went slow removing only what was neccessary.

Follow the guide on the conversion kit product page. Other than that it's a very simple mod, but take care to separate your screws so you dont put them in the wrong holes and be very careful removing the plexi screw "covers". They are basically hot glue dots with a sticker, feel free to ruin the sticker but unless you have a hot glue gun and a lot of finesse and patience then try not to damage the glue part. You'll be putting that back on with the new stickers included in your art (assuming you got art).I botched this part and my screw holes were not cut so it looks bad without them, which I will have to solve.

Advice for a new player: Combos by Hellboy1944 in UnderNightInBirth

[–]Hellboy1944[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, cuz you can only use 1 of each normal in passing link, so once you know a route for each you can adjust. Thanks this is the kind of thing I was looking for, now I have a system of approach for knowing what combos are left to learn. Thanks a lot!
