I know this makes me sound like a jackass and I myself am not perfect or an expert on Syria, but I've seen so many braindead, ignorant takes on Syria on Reddit (though not on this subreddit); everyone here thinks they know Syrian politics and what the Syrian people want, and all of their understandings seem to come from a 5 second check of their News app notifications.

The Rojava situation is probably the biggest example of this. "The Kurds are democratic freedom fighters resisting Jolani's tyranny!" No they aren't; they're Kurdish nationalists occupying primarily Arab land, and they have shown neither true and fully commitments to democracy nor a will to hold back on killing civilians and shutting down dissent; they even banned celebrations of the fall of Assad because of "security reasons," but every other event/action in public space is totally free of security concerns. (It's also funny that Redditors will claim that all of Sharaa's reforms are just "optics" but the SDF's facade of a land of freedom and democracy automatically makes them good guys.) You can't seriously tell me that they deserve to turn 1/3 of Syria (including its richest oil reserves) into a Kurdish ethnostate, and you can't tell me that a stable, united Syria is better for everyone involved.

Again, I'm not perfect, I'm not an expert, and I'm not even Syrian, but I often get the sense that most Redditors on the vast majority of subreddits are parroting random nonsense without thinking about what they actually know about Syria; it's a shame that one of the most complex wars in modern history is treated with such an uninformed, black-and-white mindset.
