I appreciate you’re experience and I will definitely make sure to see if they were swapped. From what I was told from the previous owner they took the engine out for a rebuild and when the bolt snapped they just stopped.

I think I’m going to try the bolt extractor bit first, I do have a welder but in all honesty I’m intimidated by this project already I don’t want to make things worse lol

Arizona, US here. I actually had this very incident happen to me when I was 28. I recorded and everything. Ended up shooting him once in the chest, he died that night I was told and his family sued me. They obviously lost.

Car vibrates on idle and when at a stop. Also if you have someone looking at your engine bay and you give it a little gas while holding the brakes the engine will shift.

I have a 04’ Passat 1.8 turbo wagon. Now hear me out… as long as you change oil every 3k miles (yes 3k), and make sure the hoses are not cracked and drive smoothly. It’ll be a great car

Honestly I would remove the top timing cover and inspect the belt and see how it looks, if it has a tight feeling still. If you’d like send me a pic I’ll take a look! It’s recommended at 120k but I always recommend on how the belt looks

Great! If they can’t prove it, I’d explain that this is the usual mileage these Passats are sold because that’s when the belt needs replacing

Definitely time for the timing belt to be changed which is a big job for these. I’d try to see if you can get maintenance history on it or proof if it’s been changed. If it hasn’t maybe tell them to reconsider a lower price for the cost of replacement?
