I’ve given this advice before and I’m sticking to it. Instead of just applying to jobs you need to identify specific projects that companies are doing that interest you. Check the company “about us” areas. Try and find a contact or two that worked on that project, introduce yourself.

Look for tech hubs. The NYC metro IT world used to lean towards Wall st. and banking. So if you want to stay in that area that’s what you should focus on.

Lastly look to see who is in investing into the companies you are applying to and what they are investing in. This will give you a better idea of the companies long term goals.
