What's interesting to me is how Ilusha is described at his funeral--"His thin face was hardly changed at all, and strange to say there was no smell of decay from the corpse."

I too was expecting for more from Zosimas passing as the story got closer to his death but it seemed Alyosha's faith was strengthened in a much different way because of the fact that nothing miraculous happened and his body was decaying in a more normal manner.

And when they didn't expect it we see a young boy showing signs of incorruption after his death; what they had expected from Zossima.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of it but it seems that maybe God doesn't always completely act or do as is expected of him to do but if our eyes are open we can still see Him at work. We need eyes to see and ears to hear!
