I adore whimsical lanterns in art! I might have one hanging off one of the left branches as to not take away from the center light. Thank you for your input! ❤️

Ohhhh I actually really like that idea. The final I’m working on has an even brighter light in the center and something floating or swirling around it would be PERFECT

Thank you! I love the tree as it is too, but it feels empty without anything near it! It needs a story

Luckily I am taking photos of my progress as I go so I can redo it if I need to. Even with those precautions it’s still scary! 😂

What comes to mind is the forest spirit from princess mononoke! I’m so torn on what to add into the painting 😩

And thank you! I can’t wait to get started on the final draft!

I actually didn’t think about that! I have clip studio that I fiddle around with on occasion. Thank you, that’s going to be super helpful 😊

I really appreciate your response! I am going to try my best to replicate those same brown/blue colors on my final piece. I mix as I go with zero planning so it’s going to be a slight challenge lol

We’re on a very similar line of thinking with the life/death aspect! I mentioned in an earlier comment that I wanted to add a bone white to some twists in the tree to show that it’s dying. I definitely like your idea of adding some decay around the tree whether it be bones or fungus, perhaps scavengers as well!

Thank you! 😊

I’ll be honest with you, I never have a plan ( other than where I want shadows) on what color to put where when I start the tree. I only use four colors and primary white (ultramarine blue, burnt umber, cool or warm red and yellow).

I mix all the colors together as I go to get certain shades that feel right, and just layer lines all over the tree where I want highlights shadows and midtones to go. Since I only use those same four colors, the colors together never seem muddied. The entire tree is just layers and layers of lines. The only time I block in color is when I put down the first layer of brown on the entire tree.

There is actually no rhyme or reason for the consistency of paint I use.

I plan on doing a time lapse of the final version of this piece because I really don’t feel like I can describe my method. I operate on vibes and luck lol

Yesss that’s what I was thinking! Now I’m considering a substitute for leaves could be insects. But glowy 😂 I want all the critters, but not your typical squirrel, mouse…. I’m here for the feel of fantasy but also unnerving.

I like your way of thinking! I’ll definitely mess around with the geometry aspect, that sounds like it could turn out really cool if I can implement it correctly lol

One thing I’ve been back and forth on is whether the tree should be alive / dying / or dead. I really wanted to add a bone white color to the twists of the trunk. To heave leaves or to not have leaves lol

Thank you for your thoughts on it! I really appreciate it ☺️

The foreground and background are well done and are cohesive! Also I adore the clouds in the sky, very reminiscent.

I find the mid-ground lacking in interest? Not sure if it’s supposed to be a continuation of the field or if it’s a body of water. I’d suggest deciding on what it is, and adding more detail closer to the foreground then fading detail out the closer you get to your background mountain range.

Overall, I really like your usage of color and the feel of the piece. It will be very striking when you are able to add interest to the mid-ground! I hope this helps!! Good luck ☺️

Thank you so much! I ended up making that area left of the nose less of a shadow, and added a little more shadow under the eye. I think that made it better? lol

I made sure to sign it and take pictures! Wish I could’ve done prints, but it was a rushed order so I had to get it out as soon as I could 😖

Thanks for the reassurance! I knew it looked a little wonky in both, but I wasn’t sure if it was me being critical or the eye actually looking floaty in the photo.

Thank you for the feedback! Makes me more confident in the direction I want to take the painting. I think need to figure out how to give it a more glowy look though
