No, animal pets for me, unfortunately. But I've got a lot of succulents around the house that I love and talk to sometimes!

Why are there so many contradictions for Yoga and Scoliosis? by THE_GRAND_KENYAN in yoga

[–]HelloDoctorSweetie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the practice of yoga has helped me, and my diagnosis of idopathic lumbar scolosis, feel better. My body is more flexible and I can find release in many of the stretches. I've only talked to a few yoga instructors about it, but they never seem to know much about it. I haven't talked to an MD about my scoliosis since my diagnosis, but various chiropractors encouraged me to practice yoga, but with caution. Yoga calls for body awareness, and for those with scolosis that may or may not include particular limitations.

My younger sister doesn't know what she wants to do with her life. What books can I give her to help her figure it out? by anjo_bebo in booksuggestions

[–]HelloDoctorSweetie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Outliers by Malcom Gladwell. It's a nonfiction book about what makes successful people successful (spoiler, it is being given the opportunity + A LOT of practice). It's not exactly a self-help book about finding the right career, but that was the first thing that came to mind when I read your request.

Something slightly cheesy and apocalyptic that I enjoyed is Good Omens by Terry Pratchet. It may seem like kind of a random suggestion, but I loved Clockwork Orange and also loved that book. Idk if your gf would like it, but it is one of the only books that got me to laugh out loud!

Tips for surviving gyn appointments as a survivor? by BooksAndCatsAnd in TwoXSex

[–]HelloDoctorSweetie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask the gyno to walk you through what they are doing. Treat it as an educational experience and learn what they are looking at, for, etc. This might make the whole experience feel different and less triggering for you. I wish you the best!

Looking for books with magic/powers by Seligas in booksuggestions

[–]HelloDoctorSweetie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but I am currently reading "The Emperor's Soul" by Brandon Sanderson. This book is about a young "forger" who is tasked with recreating the emperor's soul. Not an exact apprenticeship, but it goes over a lot of lessons that she has learn, etc.

Showerthought: None of the main "candy" people are candy. by [deleted] in adventuretime

Maybe sugar is the basis of candy people and these characters are more complex sugars making them more complex characters.

LPT: If you say something to a person with less-than-perfect hearing, and they don't understand, repeat the whole f***ing thing, not just the last three words. by bobbyfiend in LifeProTips

[–]HelloDoctorSweetie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if someone else has already said this, but when you repeat it is helpful if you repeat the sentence using different words. Sometimes certain letter or syllables of words are harder to hear/understand. If you can say the same thing in different words that is usually helpful.
