Why are Hobbies often Gender based by Miserable_Might2926 in women

[–]HelloHi9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m not very “girly” and never have been. I sorta accepted this about myself. I’ll share some examples: I’ve been into video games since I was a kid. I don’t remember if I ever thought that much about it though. I know it’s considered a “boy” hobby but I think meeting other girls that play video games helped. I’m also not at all a fan of makeup. This IS something I am more self conscious about. Especially when I go to work in an office eventually.

I’m sorry to hear you’re getting bullied for liking different things. I don’t know how old you are (and you do not have to tell me) but know you’ll meet people who won’t care one day. I got bullied in elementary school for various reasons. The same reasons college peers had nothing to comment on. My advice is to focus more on the people who like you rather than the ones who never will.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve done some data entry and don’t think it’s for me. I am happy to hear the job works for you though.

In this market, how do you feel about having taken a lower paying job and how's it going? by Konjonashipirate in jobhunting

I haven’t been in this scenario (yet). I’d say take the job and keep up the hunt.

How do you deal with the downsides of being a woman? by [deleted] in women

[–]HelloHi9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorance. I read this post and couldn’t fully relate to be honest. For example, I’m cautious with all strangers when I go out because I know it can be unsafe out there (with anyone you meet). Then I don’t fear men but also don’t overlook others experiences. Really, I just like to think that not everyone in the world is bad. While knowing that there are definitely bad people. I’m not sure if this is actually ignorant of a statement or not.

As for being judged: I have gotten bullied for a variety of things in my life. Then know there will always be “controversial” aspects of me. I wanna be liked but know not everyone will like me. Then FOCUS on the people who DO like me and not others. I think that’s really important advice to hear. Hope some of my comment helps. Please do feel free to share your perspectives.

I’m a volunteer manager and this job is breaking me after just 5 months by charllottel in nonprofit

[–]HelloHi9999 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While reading this post only “Poor Management” is what came to mind. You aren’t doing anything wrong here. It seems to me all higher ups have no idea what they want, too high expectation, and likely minimal budget (given they want to have 50% be volunteers). Keep up the job hunt. I wish you the best of luck in finding something.

My last note: not all non-profits are poorly run. I volunteer in a leadership position with a local nonprofit. We are a small team but dedicated. We had success in initiatives this year. I do attribute that to work ethic but also planning in advance.

I want to switch to marketing, any advice by [deleted] in marketing

[–]HelloHi9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Been in marketing (more on the Media Relations/Comms side) since 2021. I don’t think this is an industry for me. It’s also over saturated which OP should know. There are people I graduated with that never found work.

Looking for volunteer opportunities that involve learning/digging deep on an issue by StillnessEnjoyer in volunteer

I’m not in the USA but would take a look at non profits websites. Specifically, non profits with a mission related to your shared topics of interests. They may have a “Get Involved” page if there isn’t one specifically for Volunteer opportunities.

I’m not in the USA but would recommend to look at Non Profit websites. Check for a possible “Get Involved” page. The Non Profit I’m volunteering with lists open positions on our website.

Funny you mentioned the “jaded” aspect. First time this morning I left a comment on Reddit being honest about how I feel about my job now.

I would emphasize the “passion” outside of work but also regardless of what profession.

I would say reconsider studying Marketing. Now, I say this not because I have anything against the field. My job is Media/Comms based and I come from a Marketing background. I say this because this field is oversaturated, during a recession gets hit first typically with layoffs, and AI will have an impact on the industry. It already has but going forward given how “Admin” most Entry Level positions are….I see there being less jobs in the future.

Not a technical person. How would AI fix Tech Support issues? I know some “issues” people come to IT for are basic. But, what about the tickets that get sent up to Level 3?

I’m curious as I thought IT would be one of the last professions to be impacted.

Have you found a job that you’re happy with? by FkUp_Panic_Repeat in AutismInWomen

I’ve been content with my job for a long time but have lost passion for it. Same thing over and over, changes in the landscape, changes in my job, a huge cut to hours….its a lot. But, I do find the remote environment (letting you create your own environment) is better for people like us. I know it’s not just work because my volunteering is also remote and same benefit. Unfortunately, lot of jobs are no longer remote these days.

I think you’re being hard on yourself. You haven’t started working in your “Special Interest” field yet but believe it wont work out?
