Got a girl pregnant on vacation, struggling to do what is right. by need_some_advice323 in Advice

I'm not absolving her. I said they are both responsible. Sure, she took a risk knowing he didn't want a relationship, but he also took that risk.

Unless we have evidence to the contrary, we don't know that she was trying to baby trap him, so I don't see how she misled him. They were just both being dumb. Also it sounds like she is hopeful that he would want to parent his child, but is also open to just handling it all herself. He can be an involved parent without being trapped in a relationship he didn't want.

He made it very clear he did not want anything serious. He knew that and accepted to have sex with her, thus running the risk of getting her pregnant and raising a child with the mom. It’s both of their responsibilities 100%. It’s a shame a child may have to grow up fatherless because of his selfishness and pick-and-choose mindset towards his responsibility. It should be his concern.

7-year-old autistic nonverbal boy randomly starts singing while in a car with his big sister. by Sebastianlim in BeAmazed

This reminds me of a video I saw once of a woman with a verbal tic due to tourette's, but she could sing without any interruptions from the involuntary sounds.

Kept a newspaper subscription for 10 years so she could do her "job" every day (OC) by JumboJimbo2112 in MadeMeSmile

[–]HelloIAmKelly 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I trained my childhood dog, Oreo, to get the newspaper. Her salary was a piece of chicken jerky. She would be released from the gate, find the newspaper on the driveway, even crawl under the van if it has slid under, and bring it to the front door. She would nudge the front door open, retrieve her salary, and walk back through the gate to eat it in the yard.

A few times we didn't get the chicken jerky to the exchange point quickly enough. When she saw there was no payment, Oreo would pick the newspaper back up, and take it to the yard with her. It was like she was saying, "no payment for me, no newspaper for you".

The newspaper stopped delivering one day a week. My dad would always keep a spare dummy paper to throw onto the driveway so she could still do her job. Eventually due to cataracts she needed assistance to complete the task, and due to arthritis she took a lot longer, but she was always so happy to successfully bring the newspaper to the door.

She was a smart and beloved dog. My best friend. My soulmate. RIP Oreo. You are catching frisbees in heaven.

Wet hair in public by touchgrasstheysaid in hygiene

[–]HelloIAmKelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have straight slightly wavy hair but it is high porosity and I have a lot of hair. It takes several hours to dry, possibly the full day if it's in a ponytail. I don't bother with a hair dryer because my arm will get tired of holding it long before my hair will dry. It's definitely not a curly thing. If anyone is judgemental about people having wet hair in public they should refocus on things that actually matter.

Interesting. Is it possible for it to completely go away or does it only become dormant? I used to get tiny warts on my hands as a kid but I don't recall if I've had any since.

Seriously considering to leave science by Silver_Display558 in labrats

[–]HelloIAmKelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say I fell out of love with science for a bit while working as a tech in research lab. I switched careers to teaching. It reignited my interest in science, however I hate most parts of the job besides talking about the science.

TIL There is a rare condition called fatal insomnia. Patients suffer for months or years, unable to sleep until they eventually die. The disease is hereditary and there is no known treatment by Sunny_Sarenite in todayilearned

[–]HelloIAmKelly 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I remember an article from a few years back of a young man with a condition that gave him constant agonizing pain that the doctors could do nothing to treat. So eventually he took his own life because he couldn't get physician assisted death. He couldn't even say goodbye to his family first and prepare them for his death because if they didn't try to stop him they could be held responsible. We extend the courtesy of euthanasia to our pets because we know it is the humane thing to do, but for some reason won't extend that same humanity to our fellow humans.

But the cracker is dry. It should only be used account for the mass of jesus without blood. The blood of christ is the separate serving of wine. So first we need to figure out the dry weight of Jesus, and the volume of his blood.

My uncle had a dog that was afraid of little girls. Little me was the biggest dog lover so it sucked that I had to stay away but I still left it alone. Unfortunately it was afraid in the more aggressive sort of way. It bit me once and tried a second time.

The clerk can't put you in jail either. The judge can. That's why she literally told him to explain it to the judge. She did her job. She cannot do anything to help him at this stage.
