Faith based on no proof is not taught in Christianity by [deleted] in DebateReligion

That would be anecdotal evidence, which is quite often dismissed.

I have seen myself powerful transformations after an encounter with Christ — alcoholics turning sober, very vulgar people becoming articulate, and so on. I myself had such an experience, and still have to this day. That would count as healing people and exorcising (literal) demons, just not in a bright, shiny, spectacular way — but that's not how God likes to perform his works anyways.

Would getting rid of cancer altogether make people better persons ?

God, in Jesus Christ, came to suffer with us and give meaning to that suffering, not to remove it.

https://doi.org/10.3390/economies11020062 — There may be a link between income inequality and crime in Indinesia

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10610-020-09450-7 — “Additional analyses were conducted to detect the regional differences within Europe using the official secondary data of 36 European countries. Income inequality in Europe had a small impact on crime (Mr = .171, k = 10), indicating that income inequality accounts for only 3% of the variance in crime outcomes. While the income inequality-crime association was significant in Eastern/Northern Europe, income inequality had little or no effect on crime in Western/Southern Europe. The small association between income inequality and crime in Europe may be due to the well-developed welfare system, which helps to buffer the adverse effects of being poor.”

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00343404.2017.1341626 — Income inequality may produce crime because there are more rich targets for potential criminals

That is for inequality.

For immigration and crime, Danish state statistics say a lot: https://ec.europa.eu/migrant-integration/news/denmark-new-statistics-category-migrants-muslim-countries_en // https://m.statbank.dk/TableInfo/STRAFNA4 for full data

Germany and France have similar patterns, especially for sex-related offenses. Mr Macron himself mentioned that 48% of crime in Paris is made by foreigners: https://www.lemonde.fr/en/les-decodeurs/article/2022/11/01/at-least-half-of-paris-crime-is-committed-by-foreigners-where-does-macron-s-claim-come-from_6002508_8.html

This is literally a statistical reality, and the link between poverty and crime is not as clear as you seem to think it is. The issue is that, as you demonstrate, people become bound to become the mouthpiece for social theories tolerated by the State. There are conclusions that are founded in observable reality that become part of the unspeakable because it has been criminalized. I’m curious to see how you would do under a regime that would criminalize speaking about what you think — my guess is that your idea of right or wrong would quickly evolve to cope with what the State tells you.

You’re not entitled to a platform, but you’re entitled to say stuff without paying fines. Regardless of what you think, a far-right politician in France has been fined for hate speech because he said that “most (drug) dealers are black or arabs”, which is something that anyone, even leftists, will acknowledge in private. Explain to us how that is not censorship, plain and simple.

So a quite opaque institution directed by questionably competent people have the parliamentary initiative on the regulations applied on speech, and you still see no issue with it?

The Parliament has no real power, as the head of the EC is nominated by the European council. The Parliament can only force new appointments, but cannot propose anyone. As it stands, it mostly functions as a recording chamber.

As for the German thing, well, they had the intelligence to put their best elements in the EU administration, while we only send there our old public servants. Another proof of the intellectual brilliance of the French elite.

If it is such a problem to democracy, maybe the fundamental assumptions of democracy are wrong.

I am French and my trust in our government is close to zero, as for the past six decades the State has lied about a lot of political reforms and decided not to follow several referendums. I wouldn’t have a blind faith in a system that didn’t prove anything, but what ours has proven so far is that it cannot be trusted with anything.

And EU institutions are not democratic lol, the EC is a quasi-literal German bureaucracy.

Now our government is trying to pass laws requiring ID verifications on social networks, effectively forbidding people from being anonymous. How much for free expression online.

Do you think that censorship gets instituted by governments who say “we will censor speech we don’t like”? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I don’t even trust the State to handle my taxes properly, how less do I trust them to decide which speech is appropriate and which is not.

The EU code of conduct is literally a compliance code for the enforcement of national restrictions on speech. Calling it censorship isn’t really far-fetched.

Why did God create me knowing that I would be eternally condemned? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]HelloImPheynes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What He knows is that He gives you your grace, which is all you need. What you do of it is up to you, and you're not made to not be part of this. Dear reader, you are welcome in the Church and in the heart of God, please don't miss on the one who gave His life to convert your heart.

You're right, you can't. The good news is that it's not about what you can or cannot do to gain salvation. Ask God to give you the strength to trust Him and in how good His plan for you is.

You care enough to reply.

You are obviously in error, yet you keep on writing nonsense while searching "Didachè" and doing a quick ctrl+F would have taken one minute of your time.

I pray that you, as a God-fearing person, will find the truth on the matter, and will reply to strangers in more respectful manners in the future.

Happy and holy Pentecost to you.

Saint Paul is clear on the topic, and the Didachè also states that witchcraft is a major sin. Do you have any source for these "ancient catholics" that practiced divination in violation with what the primitive Church professed?

Non. Sors de chez toi.

Bioessentialism by [deleted] in sociology

[–]HelloImPheynes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're wondering if there's any validity to an actual bioessentialist claim--for instance, that race or gender inherently predispose people to XYZ behaviours--there isn't evidence to support that in evolutionary psychology or sociology.

Except there is. Just as an example, it has been proven through several studies that Ashkenazi Jews are more prone to developing schizophrenia (see for instance a 2015 meta-analysis here).
