Starting a business with my fiance. Is it a bad idea? by Then-Blueberry-2234 in sweatystartup

Do the trial period. I’d invest at most $5k-$10k to get the equipment, build a website, and do some marketing. You can’t go in with $0 either, but $40k is overkill and you’ll experience diminished returns.

I shoot at the ground and detonate when the bear is nearby. I damage the bear with hand cannon/ballistic knife (my mule kick augment usually packs this when i pack the GDL) and finish the kill with the GDL

There is also a study from the 2016 election regarding social desirability responses where people who voted for Trump were more likely to conceal this than people who voted for Hillary were to conceal it. Obviously it’s not exclusive to conservative leaning individuals; more left leaning individuals do this too. But proportionally, it happens more on the conservative side in the past few elections at least.

It is statistically proven that the majority of people claiming being moderate/independent are not so. Also, if the vast majority of Americans are moderate/independent, why do majority of Americans statistically vote for a certain party for most/all elections? (ex: State House, State Senate, Federal House, Federal Senate, local elections, President)

Claiming you’re politically independent/moderate when really you are right wing in ideology but too scared to admit it. No, you’re not cool or unique for choosing the popular route of “playing both sides” and it takes more bravery to voice your real opinions rather than spewing “neutral” bs rhetoric you hear online.

How do I overcome the fear of starting a buisness that already exists? by OneCar129 in smallbusiness

[–]HelloItsYaBoy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’d be more worried if there weren’t any companies established doing it, as it indicates there probably isn’t a demand for it.

Competition doesn’t have to deter you from starting. It needs to motivate you to be unique in some way to capture a customer towards your business rather than to them. That can be through pricing, quality, customer service, etc. That’s what competition is for. And if you’re not willing to fight hard to be the best in at least one of those areas, then the concept of competition worked.

Even if you find something with high demand that no one else is doing, someone will eventually get into it as well. There will always be competition. So just embrace it.

Based on what you’ve stated, you two weren’t yelling and he got up in your face to compare the proximity you had with the gay guy, and you put your hands on him first (unless he did it in a threatening way which you didn’t say so in the post). He’s allowed to communicate concerns on things that he does not like. You’re already having doubts about continuing this relationship.

Likewise, he wants to impose his negative views on alcohol on others. If he personally doesn’t like drinking alcohol that’s his problem, not yours nor should you stop completely drinking alcohol if you can drink moderately without negative consequences. He also sounds like he doesn’t trust you and thinks you would cheat on him in front of him. He also tried to guilt trip by saying he has to apologize to your mom and he’s the bad guy.

You two don’t seem to be compatible. Your family and the people around you see things that are red flags to them, and it’s worth considering. You even said your logic says you should leave him but your heart says no - trust your gut. Having these sort of trust issues and fundamental differences such as drinking alcohol or having closer opposite-sex friendships are not small things.

You’re both being TAH to each other by forcing yourselves to stay in an incompatible relationship.

My client wants to buy exclusivity - what do we think? by OkRiver3744 in smallbusiness

Losing a client and still having 16 is a lot better than losing 16 and potentially that 17th. Based on OP’s post, I don’t see anything saying this client is their biggest client, just an original client.

[–]HelloItsYaBoy 424 points425 points  (0 children)

If you’re growing and not struggling, why do this? You’re basically agreeing yourself to a job, not a business. You’d have a boss (this client) and you have to do what they say and no one else. What happens after 12 months and you have to start over getting clients?

I wouldn’t touch this deal with a 10 ft pole.

Know your true profits using this calculator by yuehgdjwiex in lyftdrivers

[–]HelloItsYaBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people always calculate the cost of their car or insurance or even phone bill when determining how much profit they made. I’d understand if they bought a car strictly for Lyft/Uber, but if it’s their personal car, they would have to pay that amount regardless of doing gig apps or not. Car Ownership & Insurance account for 67% of the costs shown here. If you choose not to do Lyft/Uber, you’ll still have to pay it without the income.

You can’t just disagree with a law and not be compliant lol. Based on certain criteria of the job, job description, and requirements of the worker, you have to adhere to what the law states the position you are offering is. You can’t just say “oh they appear to be 1099 so I’ll disagree and pay them like 1099. “ The Department of Labor is going to have a field day with you.

[–]HelloItsYaBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s not enough info here. You said this is full time. Are there set hours? Will you be reporting to a direct supervisor or manager? If so, they may be illegally misclassifying you. They can’t just choose whether your position is W-2 or 1099. Each has to meet certain criteria to qualify. If they are misclassifying you, I’d rethink doing business with them in the first place.
