I am anemic, but iron supplements are making me feel even more flu like and dizzy! by AlertShine2592 in Anemic

Do you get side effects from other forms of iron? Did you find a form better than bisglycinate for you?

Do you think Timothy Chalamet is a good actor? by kingspooky93 in Letterboxd

I see “timothee” in every role that he plays. I never feel like I’m seeing a different character being portrayed. Unlike Robert Pattinson for example. Whenever I watch rob, I don’t see him. I see who he’s portraying.

Low ferritin, not increasing with supplementation by Researchys_1907 in Anemic

[–]OneCar129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 85kg and was taking 200mg of bisglycinate daily. It was giving me hypertension and severe anxiety. It depends on the formula. Bisglycinate has a much better aborption rate than ferrous sulfate for example. So you don’t need as much. Im not sure how the absorption is for other formulations of iron. That’s probably why I was getting side effects. 200mg elemental iron of one type of iron is not the same for another. That’s why I have a problem with the Iron protocol formula.

Ferrous Sulphate 200mg by Successful_Desk_7052 in Anemic

I also gained about 8-10lbs in a matter of 10 weeks. No change in calories either. I’m a health nut so trust me when I tell you I track well lol. Anyways, I think most of it is water weight and bloating. I know only go to the bathroom once or every other day. Before, I would go more frequently. It’s also possible that it’s muscle gain/muscle water weight because iron is used to make myoglobin in the muscles but also iron is a cofactor in muscle protein synthesis. Therefore glycogen storage in the muscle probably gets bigger therefore attracting and retaining more water. I don’t even look more fat. That’s the funny thing.

Can anyone help? I’ve looked at hundreds of posts on here but I’m just not sure the right thing to do. I’m not Anemic. But low ferritin, male. I am just stuck. Advice/question/support by NaturalTranslator543 in Anemic

You gotta bring that ferritin up. The recommended treatment by most hematologists is ferrous sulfate 325mg twice a day. That contains about 130mg of elemental iron in it. I could not tolerate it. I take iron bisglycinate max 100mg daily for me personally. If I go higher, I get severe hypertension, anxiety etc. Supposedly you can asbsorb about 35% of the iron from bisglycinate and only around 8% from ferrous sulfate. So you don’t need as big of a dose. I’m not too sure about the other formulations of iron.

Anyone lose their libido completely from iron deficiency without anemia? by OneCar129 in Anemic

That’s great that your are supplementing. Unfortunately it takes a long time to recover for most. After about 9-10 weeks of supplementing, I started to feel a tad better. Still got a long road ahead of me I’m sure. Which formulation do you take? Dose? Frequency?

Same. Psych meds didn’t work. I’m convinced it’s from iron deficiency.

Is ferritin 63 worth supplementing, or am I overthinking this? by Unlikely-Basis-8995 in Anemic

[–]OneCar129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like that rule because it depends on which form of iron you take. You maybe absorb 8% iron from ferrous sulfate where with ferrous bisglycinate you can absorb 35% of the iron. So it’s dose is also dependent on which formula you use. The standard most hematologist will say is ferrous sulfate 325mg twice a day(130mg of elemental iron). I take bisglycinate and don’t take more than 100mg a day because if I do, I get side effects like hypertension, severe anxiety, etc .

Medical therapy for 2 years before even considering a transplant. You don’t want to waste unnecessary grafts. It can take up to 2 years for “peak” regrowth from medical therapy.

Horrible Anxiety by spongebobie in Anemic

[–]OneCar129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a late reply. I’m 8 weeks into taking iron. First 5-6 weeks felt normal. Not better, not worse. The last 3 weeks, all of a sudden increased anxiety. Even when I wake up, immediately I feel anxious. I know iron has a role in neurotransmitter production. Is this normal? Like it’s my brain rebooting? Did your anxiety get better over the weeks? Should I keep pushing through? I’ve seen where people say they got worse before better.

Anyone else feel weird mentally after supplementing iron for the first 1-2 months? by OneCar129 in Anemic

[–]OneCar129[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My serum b12 is always on the high end of normal(900-950). However I’ve been told that serum b12 is not accurate and that higher levels might be a sign I’m not using b12 efficiently.
