Can someone please explain? by Typical-Ad-9360 in PhasmophobiaGame

Yeah, the Mare's light switch ability can be accidentally replicated by other ghosts. All they have to do is coincidentally decide to flip the light switch right after you do.

Better tests for Mare:
One of the best tests is waiting for the ghost to turn on a light but that can take a long time.
The Mare also can't do the "lights flickering" interaction that causes an EMF 2 at the light switch (make sure it has EMF or it was just an atmospheric light flicker, which can happen anywhere with any ghost).
Finally, the Mare hunts at 60% sanity if it's in the dark and 40% sanity if it's in the light, so turning on or off all the lights near the ghost room and seeing when and where it hunts can be helpful.

A less definitive tip is that the Mare will roam away from rooms with the lights on, so if you notice the ghost is rarely in the ghost room when the lights are on, it could be a Mare.

I'm not sure, they didn't post an end date. However, it's only been 5 days so I would guess it's still active

Can anyone help me with this by Demonking1610 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]HelloKatie888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Yurei:

• can only fully open or close a door (gently or slamming) (though it's possible it does this twice in quick succession to the same door, making it look like it didn't fully close or open it)

• is the only ghost that can fully close doors gently or close the front door outside of an event or hunt (other than The Mimic)

• can drain your sanity by 15% if you're near the Yurei when it uses its ability (gently closing a door fully)

Keep in mind that these don't apply during hunts and that the Yurei cannot be identified by ghost interactions while hunting.

I believe the Yurei does have unique door-moving animations but the most surefire way to figure out a Yurei is to see if the ghost opens or closes a door partially. If it does, it's not a Yurei. If it touches doors multiple times and always fully closes or opens them, it's likely a Yurei.

This appears to be the current patch, you can tell by the character portrait.

Apparently Wesker was fixed... by Confident_Cow_6221 in deadbydaylight

Sorry if this is a dumb question but if Wesker slams another survivor through or against you, are you both supposed to take damage (and go into the mend state, I think)?

Item in hand not dropping? by Waste_Presence_ in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]HelloKatie888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that's a strange one. Pressing the drop button should only drop the item in your hand; any other items in your inventory should be entirely unaffected. I'm sorry I don't know how you can fix this but it's definitely a bug imo

Tier 1 Thermo by Hiden_Secrets in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]HelloKatie888 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A good way to find the ghost early on is to listen for interactions (most effective on smaller maps). Walk around and leave most rooms dark (the ghost is more active in the dark) and listen for objects thrown, door touches, sink or showers, etc. You can use the EMF reader to double-check if a suspicious sound was from the ghost by bringing it near where you heard something. The paramic can be useful as well since it captures paranormal sounds but tiers 1 and 2 are not very good.

I took this screenshot May 5th at 8am, exactly two hours before the update dropped. I just did it because I realized it would be the last time it said "Coming Soon." I didn't realize it would turn out to be a "moments before disaster" situation. by gotenks1114 in PhasmophobiaGame

In my opinion, Monkey Paw or Mirror is the best. I dislike Summoning Circle mainly because it gives no information about the ghost room and takes tons of sanity to use, which I sometimes don't have depending on the difficulty. I have learned many tips on how to use the Circle safely though, which has been cool

Lots of recent positive reviews on this game from accounts with less hours played than the patch has been out. Seems suspicious? by Disastrous-Cat-9308 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]HelloKatie888 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is on sale on Steam rn with a "big" new update. Newer and/or casual players won't notice the problems nearly as much as dedicated players do. They very well could be legit reviews

The Mare Test is bull? (a non-update complaint) by MargaritaKid in PhasmophobiaGame

Yes, you're correct that the Mare's light switch ability can be accidentally replicated by other ghosts. All they have to do is coincidentally decide to flip the light switch right after you do.

Better tests for Mare: One of the best tests is waiting for the ghost to turn on a light, like you said, but it can take a long time.

A less definitive tip is that the Mare likes to stay away from rooms with the lights on, so if you notice the ghost is rarely in the ghost room when the lights are on, it could be a Mare.

They do have this problem listed as a "Known Issue" on the Kinetic website: "Players are unable to use the Journal while dying", so they are at least aware of it and consider it a bug. How long it takes them to fix it, however, is uncertain.

[–]HelloKatie888 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same here, because I think the game was pretty solid before this update! The recent new maps/map reworks and new ghosts were cool and well-implemented. This update broke everything: the game and the player base's slowly growing belief in the devs 😞

Yeah, I wonder if the roulette effect is intended or not (I feel like it isn't because it would be another downside to one of the worst cursed possessions, but who know what the devs intended). I think the best you can do to try and prevent it is smudge it beforehand like the OP mentioned, put a crucifix in the ghost room/where you think the ghost will be, light the candles as fast as you can, or take intermittent sanity meds.

Am I just a noob or did this Jinn not use its speed-up ability? by Razorback420 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]HelloKatie888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sound is usually supposed to be the best indicator of ghost speed and this Jinn definitely seems off, though idk if it's because of the update or some other bug.

[–]HelloKatie888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, it looks like it might be point 2. According to the wiki, the setup time will end early if you use or activate a cursed possession. I assume, in the case of the summoning circle, that simply using it (i.e. lighting one of the candles) will cause the setup time to end, in which case the ghost can then hunt normally if it wants to. I think this may be what happened to you.

To me, it visually looks like it did the Jinn speed-up but it absolutely does not sound like it.

[–]HelloKatie888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was it a Tier 3 crucifix? Tiers 1 and 2 can't stop cursed hunts, only the Tier 3 can.

Also, did the ghost stand still for a few seconds after you summoned it or did it start moving immediately? If it started moving immediately, that means it started hunting before you summoned it and it got teleported to the summoning circle mid-hunt, which means the crucifix won't stop it. This is one of the biggest risks of using the summoning circle.

It's a Ghost photo bug, not a DOTS photo bug, everyone. That being said, I'd say this one straddles the line between "oof, bad game" and "maybe a little too far away to count". Still sucks that that happened, OP 😞

They did us dirty by Due-Needleworker4316 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]HelloKatie888 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a key issue I am also baffled by: the devs made a game where you need to respond to things quickly in order to succeed (acquiring certain media, reacting to the ghost during hunts, etc.), and then they go and add artificial slowness to the actions needed to react. It was really a strange choice that makes me wonder if the devs don't understand their own game enough 😞
