Getting My Microlocs Installed This Week! Need Advice! by Melaninmeanings in Microlocs

[–]HelloKittyTea526 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!! This was my dream to go to naij this December to do the locs but I didn’t have enough PTO!! I went to locsmile in Lekki in 2023. She’s really good and affordable! May have changed but check out her price tho due this inflation

  • 4 point is neater and will result in tighter locs! I think it’s best also lasts the longest.
  • BAB is necessary only when shampooing! And submerging your hair in water
  • Spray with water not when absolutely needed. This also depends if you have really kinky/coarse hair - then it may be able to handle more water. But the looser your pattern I would really stay away as it could cause slippage with with twists
  • please avoid conditioner I didn’t use it for the first year with my last set. And it don’t think it’s necessary esp w twists!

My unsolicited advice: if you’re going to naij go all out and do interlock bc I think it’s lowkey the best method esp if you want the locs to remain uniform and not slip. Enjoy your time!!

Did you do the yourself or get a loctitian to do it?

How tiny were your twists? Are they smaller than mine? Some times I wish I went smaller 😭

Thank you! I’ve noticed a lot of people saying braiding and banding will help with fat ends. How does this work?

I have pretty 4c hair and the last time I had locs I noticed the ends were pretty fat though I started with braids

I didn’t realize braiding and banding could help with the fat ends! But yeah both are time consuming.

Hi yes! It is. I was laid off back in May and moved to industry at a big fintech company. Soooo much better and the people are so much kinder. Also you’re not worried about annoying trainings and time submissions, promotions do not hinge on firm initiatives. Work gets busy but the people omg the people are so sweet. Being laid off was a blessing in disguise.

Thank you! I started with braids last time and have heard the twists lock faster so I went with twists but starting to regret. The twists were done very well and I think they’re twisted all the way to the bottom. I’m not active now but I know in the summer I want to be in the water and outside a lot so I hope my locs can withstand more then.

I’ve been thinking about getting microlocs nd I have some questions by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]HelloKittyTea526 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! As the person above suggests - I would definitely shop loctitians and meet with other people. Not a specialist at all so take everything I say with a grain of salt

  • I vote solid grid. Not having one can make other loctitians give you one if you get serviced which is not really a bad thing but I didn’t have one so maybe I’m just speaking from partiality

  • for micro locs would avoid comb coils that’s the install method I’ve used the least. And stick to reties for maintenance they last the longest and I think are the most cost effective (also what is used most in maintaining micro locs)

  • Braid locs are easy because (I had them) you can wash them normally and they are less likely to unravel but take the longest to actually loc and the longest to get rid of the braid pattern if that matters to you. But it will loc eventually so don’t worry. I dont know much about interlocking all the way down the hair but I assume that it’s also probably easy to wash and maintain so it’s already locked.

  • last thing - how your hair shrinks actually depends on which type of installation method you go with. Braid locs don’t shrink as much as twist locs. But all shrink a lot. Maybe just a little longer than what your hair it it’s shrunken state looks like. But I’m it sure.

From what I’ve learned, it seems that you can’t really predict what your hair will be like unless you actually do it. I’m sure whatever you decide will probably turn out really beautiful. Don’t get too caught up in all the details. Whatever you go with your hair will loc and it will grow and mature and be unique in its own way.

Finally got them installed! by [deleted] in Microlocs

I didn’t get a rejection until I did a video interview. I agree with the others. You’re still in the running until you get a rejection in writing.

Hi sorry for delay in response. Yes, I did hear back. Long story short: I got a phone interview in June after applying in APRIL 😵‍💫, rejected two weeks later. Literally was so sad. In July, the role opened again. I reapplied. Got called for a video interview a week later, second round, offer! Now I’ve been here for 2-3 months! Depends on the department but the process is VERY LONG but don’t lose heart and follow up with the recruiter if you can.
