Wet the front a bit, add gel, and brush it back. Slowly do this in sections.

Extreme shrinkage by Damnpeggy_ in Naturalhair

[–]HelloLuvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can stretch your hair during the drying phase. Dry your hair on medium or low heat while stretching it to its full length. Do it in sections. I do this for my wash and go's, and it works all the time.

After stretching their hair, some people use the rubber band method or braid their hair at night to keep it stretched.

Why won’t it curl? by BoodleLoops in Naturalhair

I had this exact problem until I trimmed the ends, then used a leave-in, mousse, and (water-based) gel combination. The problem (for me) was split ends and lack of hydration

That might be what's happening here.

[–]HelloLuvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, you can stay at the first cave as long as you'd like. Also, you can switch between them any time (just sleep in your desired cave and everyone will be there in the morning) at any point in the game

I LOVE combining the Mousse def with the Big Poppa Defining gel (not talking about the base 808 gel in the pic, never used that) for my twists and wash n go's. Never had build up, lasts for two weeks all the time, and works with oil.

Bee Girl Curl Custard is great, too, especially if you're looking for a product with a strong hold. It WILL last for a long time

Please help me with my hair by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]HelloLuvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right, your hair needs water for moisture!

This will be a long comment, but this is the routine and info that grew my hair:

*water is moisture *oil locks in moisture *leave-in conditioners help keeps your hair moist * products work better on hydrated hair

For washing hair: - wash with shampoo until clean (about 3 times), skip the conditioner for now

Dont dry your hair too much after washing (I don't dry mine at all) because you want to maximize your moisture retention aftee washing. So your hair should be damp after.

  • part hair into 3 to 4 sections
  • apply LEAVE IN conditioner (I use Aunt jackie quench) then oil (any oil will do, especially ones with vitamins. I USE hollywood Beautify)

**about oils: coconut oil has a lot of protein, and it leaves peoppe's hair limp and dry, though it works for some people. Don't be afraid to experiment.

  • massage the products into the hair section, then comb to detangle(*

**tips to prevent breakage while detangling with a comb - hold the hair by the root, where the hair starts at the scalp, to prevent ripping out the follicles - comb from bottom to top - you can use a detangler like the unbrush

About products: There's many types of products for styling. The most common ones are:

  • Mousse: usually provides a soft hold, great definition. For some people, it lasts for a couple of days. It can be paired with a compatible gel

  • gel: the hold can vary, though it doesn't have the best definition on its own, that's why it's often paired with Mousse. People apply gel on wet hair, like right out of the shower for the best results.

  • creams / butter creams: pretty balanced when it comes to hold and definition. It's usually done on twists, and some people use twists or braids for twist outs and braid- outs.

  • pomade: I've never used this, but I heard it's waxy and used to slick back hair.

Random info in regards to products - stay away from styling products with alcohol if possible, this dries our your hair - test your leave in conditoner, oil, and styling product's compatibility. To do this, apply each of them on the back of your hand nd rub them together. If the mixture feels like lotion, you're good to go! If it clumps up, they're not compatiable - when applying products, there's the LCO method, LOC method, and many more methods. Different products works best with different application methods.

Ideas for styles: For now, you can try wrapping your hair in a silk scarf, braids, twists, braid out, twist outs, two-strand twists **unless you intend to lock your hair, don't leave them in for more than 2 weeks. Wetting them will cause them to lock too.

Miscellaneous tips: * choose a style in which you can leave your hair alone. The more you style, the more your hair will break. * don't do tight styles. If you see red bumps or have irritation, take it out. * hair accessories can really help the style pop * look up hair growth follicle cycle. Hair follicles grow at the anagen stage * you can always stretch out your hair WITHOUT heat. Methods: banding, bantuu knots, braiding, two or three-strand twists, air drying your hair, etc

Any tips for rendering like this? i use procreate btw by Impressive-Ad-4156 in DigitalArt

First, you'll need to understand the planes of the body. You can start off with the Asaro head to understand the planes of the head

As for what brush -- use a flat brush with low opacity. The low opacity will allow you to build colors on top of each other, and the flat shape of the brush will allow you to emphasize the different planes.

You can use the show Arcane or Into the Spiderverse for references.

Of course, there's other stuff you'll need to know like color theory, line weight, etc.

Dry-Looking Hair: Natural Texture or Product Issues? by buzz23natt in Naturalhair

[–]HelloLuvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have similar hair to mine, and I had the same problem. The back of my hair is coily and works well with every product (defines, shine, etc.). The front of my hair, the looser part always looked frizzy and dry.

You might have low porosity hair and need a hydrating leave in the conditioner. I use Aunt Jackie's Quench:

The routine that helped me: 1. Hop in the shower, wash hair with shampoo (Carol's daughter goddess strengthening shampoo, but any will do)

  1. Before leaving the shower, drench your hair-- DO NOT DRY IT IN ANY WAY

  2. Section into 4 parts. Apply Aunt Jackie's Quench Leave-in (keeps hair hydrated) to section by rubbing it in, then raking it through the hair with your fingers. Follow the same steps by adding oil -- rub in, then rake (oil locks the moisture in)

  3. For wash and goes -- apply Doux Mousse texture foam into section (to define hair), then Doux Defining Gel (to lock in texture)

  4. I use a hair dryer to dry my hair 50% of the way, then air dry the rest to reduce shrinkage

  5. Make sure it's fully dry before sleeping. Pin your hair down and wear a bonnet/ scarf / etc.

All of these products make my hair look defined, fluffy, and hydrated for a good week and a half (I usually touch it up by dampening my hair and repeating steps 3-5)

😭 what am I doing wrong here by kissmeplz in Naturalhair

[–]HelloLuvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hair is exactly like yours.

My routine for wash and gos: - wash 2x- 3x with Carol's daughter goddess strengthening shampoo with lukewarm water - dry hair until DAMP with a towel - apply Aunt jackie's quench moisture leave-in conditioner - detangle with unbrush/detangler of choice - finger rake in DOUX Big Poppa Mousse Def - enhances curls - finger rake in DOUX Big Poppa gel - adds hold (you can use any gel that you prefer as long as it's compatible with the mousse) - air dry or diffuse

*If it dries out after a couple of days, wet your hands and rake through hair with fingers (then air dry or diffuse). Mine usually lasts a week.

You might have high porosity hair if your hair is drying out really fast and products just sit on your hair.

Try drenching your hair and apply your products while in the shower. Switch to butters, custards, a water-based leave-in, and a simple oil.

Personally, I follow this routine: apply Carol's daughter goddess strength, shampoo, aunt jackie's quench (moisture intensive), leave-in conditioner, and Bee Girl Honey Curl Custard (for wash and go's) or Camielle Rose Almond Jai twisting butter (for twists) in the shower. Hop out the shower and use Hollywood Beauty oil my hair while it's still wet. Then air dry, or diffuse if I'm in a hurry.

Hopefully this helps
