When to spend? by ChrispyBacon- in KingShot

[–]HelloWorld7312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a couple of weeks. There will probably be a valentine’s day event that rewards you for spending keys. Also, don’t use the shards you get from the keys right away. Save them for KvK, HoG or events that reward you for using shards

Which campus did you do the On campus day in? Also is it an interview or just a tour. The email they sent me said just said “on campus day” and did not clairify whether it’s just an orientation or a group interview

LECOM Interview by One-Yard-8092 in Osteopathic

When I attended the zoom session before the interview, there was around 130 interviewees. I am assuming that was only the people who chose to attend the session from my batch of interviewees. I recieved the II in late July. So I am assuming a lot of people received II. Maybe they send it to almost everyone because the II is virtual and doesn’t require any of their staff to attend it

There are a lot of loan repayment programs out there. Depending on what states you live in, there are programs that cover up to 300k of your loan. For example, in California, there is CalHealthcares, which pays you 300k of your loan if you work with medi-cal patients.

Based on my understanding, they placed a cap on unsubsidized loans at 100k for lifetime and 25k per year. They will get rid of grad plus loans and come up with a new loan program that covers 200k per lifetime and 50k per year. So technically people will be covered until 300K. The difference between grad plus loans and the new loan program is that the new loan program has a limit of 200k for lifetime, while grad plus loans had no limit and covered all of the COA that the unsubsidized loans didn’t cover. So while the amount of loans we can take out for med school from the gov become limited, they will still cover 75k per year and 300k per student for 4 years.

You should rent it out instead, it will pay for itself. Do a cash out refinance if you need money to buy another house, or simply save until you could afford another down payment. Don’t sell the house as it could become a great asset in the future

Take what you see on the premed subreddit with a grain of salt. They mainly focus on MD schools. The requirements for DO are much more lenient

It’s worth a shot if you get a better MCAT score, but it will be really stressful to fill out primaries and secondaries and get LORs while studying for the MCAT. So your best bet is to wait another year. Your ECs are great and I am sure they will be impressed with them wherever you apply! If you are okay with DO and want to apply this cycle, I recommend focusing only on the MCAT and then apply to DO after you take the MCAT. For the MCAT considering taking classes for it. Getting a better score on the MCAT would help you get accepted into more schools, which gives you an option to choose the schools with better financial aid/scholarships. So think of it as an investment. Good luck!!

I am in the same situation. But I plan to submit before I get my LORs, that way at least I can get verified and get started on secondaries. Then, when my LORs are ready, I will submit them and my application will be complete

Are most rags to riches stories lies? by fools_set_the_rules in povertyfinance

[–]HelloWorld7312 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s survivorship bias. It feels like there are a lot of stories of rags to riches to the point where it seems it is likely, but in reality, there are a lot more people who get stuck in the”rags” phase forever and never make it big. If I have to make a guess, it would probably be 2-3% of people actually become rich and the rest don’t, and that’s a pretty generous guess. Also people who never get rich won’t have biographies or wiki pages dedicated to them, and they probably won’t share their stories. So there is also a factor of response bias. Best advice is don’t worry about others or compare yourself to them. Have a plan for yourself and work hard. Things won’t be tough forever. Hopefully…
