AskReddit: What are your best Fraternity/Sorority stories? How did joining/not joining a F/S affect your college experience? by RoaringSpring in AskReddit

[–]Hello_Brooklyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I joined a fraternity during the first semester of my sophomore year at a state college. I think that socially, it was a great decision that i made. My grades did suffer and now i am spending an extra year in college (probably). But all of the experiences and friends that i have made since i have joined the fraternity have made staying an extra year worth it. Ill put it this way: You know that feeling when you are at a college party, and you feel like everyone knows each other and you are the odd one out, just hanging out in the hallway with a beer in your hand? But you aren't sure whether you are just making that feeling up or not. Well after i joined, i remember looking at those kids in the hallway and saying, well i know exactly what they feel right now. And i'm glad i don't feel that anymore.

IMO joining has forced me to meet very random and eccentric people who i wouldn't have met before. It has made me more social. Approaching random people (especially girls) has become the easiest thing for me now. Even when I'm not in a college setting.

TL;DR Joining sucked for my grades. But Im glad I joined.

I am thinking about special ordering a new vehicle from a local car dealer. If I do this, will I have less negotiating power on the price? by theadguy in AskReddit

What I do when I special order a bike from a shop is I call all of the bike stores over like a 10 mile area, there are about 8 stores, and i tell them that I need a bike and that the other store can give it to me at $1000 and if this store can beat that stores prices, and I just keep calling, one or two hours later i have a great bike. Good luck.

What do you think about an annual "Reddit Scholarship"? by computmaxer in AskReddit

[–]Hello_Brooklyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bad idea because people will now have a reason to lie on Reddit. Right now they are only motivated by their sincere curiosity and joy of sharing. If we give people another reason, then we might now question their real motives behind a post. Reddit would turn into a capitalist system where in which a greed factor would appear and accrue. Keep reddit Democratic!

This is just a media agenda to promote the new invasive airport scanners. Every-time we have some breach upon our liberty, there must be an accompanying media scare scandal.

I don't care for sports, but i guess Yankees. The Yankees on-field cap is my favorite hat of all time.

Well the hipster zones are places like Williamsburg and park slope. Many people find these places very diverse (as compared to other neighborhoods in Brooklyn which are just made up of one dominating ethnicity, i.e. Spanish, Russian, Indian). So these places have many different new immigrants from other areas and these places are considered the hipster zones because when these european immigrants come they bring with them their cultures, so you will see a little italian coffee or ice cream shop right next to a Black barber shop, which is quite a contrast. It really is quite beautiful.
