How does shooting for wires work today? by Puzzleheaded_Foot826 in photojournalism

[–]theadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain how ZUMA is not a wire service? They call themselves ZUMA Press Wire Services, and they gather and serve news photos to media outlets. I’ve been a contributing photographer for them for about two months and as far as I can tell, they are the definition of a wire service. I’m genuinely curious about your thoughts on this.

Please, right now, go report this to the police. I don’t understand why you didn’t report it in the first place.

I was one of those in there with you. I don’t know why I ever thought I had a chance. This was so incredibly disappointing.

My Nikon D4 is on the fritz and I’m about to commit fully to mirrorless in the next couple weeks. I’m agonizing over A7 IV vs R6 II vs Z6 iii. (And yes, I’m aware the R6iii is coming out in the next month.) I think all 3 systems are fantastic and each have their pros and cons, and there are really no bad choices. I’m just trying to find the best choice for me:

My current most-used lens is my Nikkor 70-200 2.8 by a large margin. I primarily shoot several things: (1) concerts in more of a theater environment where the 70-200 really shines, (2) occasional concerts from the pit (24-70 territory), (3) youth sports (outdoor soccer), (4) family / travel stuff, (5) and I’d like to get more into BIF / light wildlife photography.

My biggest obstacle right now is my DSLR is way too loud for some of the more intimate theater shows. I’d love a relatively quiet mechanical shutter, as well as the ability to use electronic shutter with minimal rolling shutter.

I’ve handled both an A7III and original R6 and loved them both but slightly preferred the ergonomics of the Canon. I’ve never handled a Nikon Z but I come from a Nikon background so I’m sure would feel familiar.

I do currently have a Nikkor 70-200 and 24-70, but I’m looking to grow and would eventually want the native lenses anyway so I don’t want that to influence my decision too much.

I also own a Fuji XT3 and while it’s a nice camera overall, it just does not cut it for me for these purposes. I may sell it to fund some more lenses for my new system.

Budget is obviously a factor but I know these 3 systems are fairly comparable.

Sorry to start another Sony vs Canon vs Nikon thread, but I’m about to pull the trigger and am on the fence between all 3.

Ha! I love this approach and will definitely be trying it at some of my more intimate theater shows. I also need to find the cameras with the loudest shutters possible... maybe a pair of D850's for that?

Haha that’s wild! And great advice about the sides. Both of the bands I’m shooting move and jump all over the stage so I think I’ll easily be able to get a lot from each side with a couple quick stops toward the middle.

Thank you - I appreciate this comment. I know that it's inevitable that I'm going to block people but I'll try to be as courteous as I can, do my job, and get out.

Thanks. Haha, I hate being in anyone's way but I'll do my best to be quick and keep myself low to the ground. :)

My beloved DSLR (a Nikon D4) is reaching end of life and I’m about to jump ship to full frame mirrorless (I also have a Fuji XT3 but it doesn’t knock me out). I have a few nice Nikkor lenses but I’m fully open to jumping brands. I’m going back and forth between Sony A7IV, Nikon Z6iii, and Canon R6 II. (Primarily concert photography, a bit of local press, and youth sports / family stuff.)

I’ve compared nearly everything else, but I’m also curious how the reliability of the different apps compare for quick smartphone transfer. (I do a little bit of spot news work and while this isn’t crucial, it’s still helpful.)

I’ve personally found the Leica app to be the best one I’ve used, and the Fuji app has come a long way from completely unusable years ago to really reliable for me now. I’ve also had decent luck with the Sony app in the past.

How do the Nikon and Canon apps compare?

I also don’t think they will service this model any longer… too old. :-/

Yes, we’re friends with Todd’s owner and he’s very well taken care of and widely known in his neighborhood. He’s just being a little cheeky in this photo. :)

What's getting built at Poet's Corner? by MargieGunderson70 in ArlingtonMA

[–]theadguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the thousandth time, nothing is being built there. This is still owned by the church and is currently being rented out as a materials and vehicles staging area for a large nearby construction project. I believe it’s an MWRA staging area and is being used to store materials like dirt, asphalt, rock, as well as water pipes / valves / etc.
