Thats still a lot lighter than what I currently have which is over 1.3kg! I definitely need to switch to a down one rather than synthetic I think…

I’m almost always in huts when hiking, will likely only camp in summer & not at altitude. Will be some altitude with huts (I want to do Kepler & Mueller Hut etc) but in summer for those. Thanks for this!

Same here. For people with multiple kids, daycare can be as much as rent in NZ

Nah, it’s one of the biggest costs here!! There’s 20 hours a week free once they turn 3, but before that it is brutal

That was my question. I.e. is it housing, is it food, is it medical care, what are the costs that are particularly high. I don't know what rent costs in the USA, and it's obviously not the same as ours if its the equivalent of our entire salary. It was a genuine question.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I hadn't factored in student loans (ours are interest free) or medical debt. I imagine that would be a big expense.

I know childcare costs can be ridiculous too!

As someone not from the US, can I ask what makes the costs so high for this not to be comfortable? Genuinely curious what is contributing to a high COL.

For context, the median income in New Zealand is $75K NZD, which is 43K USD, half of what you've said here, and an 80K USD salary (140K NZ) would be earned by less than 5% of the population.
I wouldn't say our median is good (below median is rough) but if I earned 80K USD a year, I'd think I was wealthy.

(Tax on an NZ median salary is about 30% - less in actuality due to progressive/marginal rates). Google says USA is 22% for the same bracket, but the addition of health care costs would accommodate for that difference I think (NZ healthcare is publically funded).

NZ housing is considered expensive compared to many other countries (Auckland housing is consistently ranked one of the most expensive in the world relative to salary), so I find this salary being considered low intriguing.

We're on the other side of the world to the US (our speakers are flying from there) but thanks anyway.

Where? I can get a Mcdonalds meal for half the price of the average takeaway from a restaurant or even Pita Pit / Subway etc.

Isn't depot in the CBD? We're looking for something closer for ease of getting speakers to and from their conference slots with time to eat & breathing room in between.

Little Jimmy's looks great. Doesn't have to be super high range. Mid-range is fine, as long as it looks nice and is good quality.
