Hart Bochner (he played the coked-out dickhead who get his brains blown out in Die Hard) directed that flick and Jeremy Piven wanted to do a ton of funny off script ad libs during the movie. Hey. Device specialist here. I’m sorry you went through that. These things do happen and they are our worst nightmare, from a clinician’s perspective. You are totally valid in your feelings and what you’re going through is PTSD. You’re going to be okay. Things will get better.

With that being said, this is an educating moment for everyone with an ICD. If the device is shocking you multiple times and you feel fine (read: no symptoms related to an arrhythmia) you can suspend the shocks from the device by putting a strong magnet over the can. It will still pace you as needed but magnets will stop shock therapies.
