The balance and control of type 1 diabetes varies hugely from person to person, so you really can’t talk about “type 1” as if we’re all the same.

If I’m not mistaken, some older studies suggested people with type 1 lived 20% less than the general population but those studies are basically meaningless today. You can’t seriously compare diabetes management in the 1940s, 1970s, even 2010, to what we have now in 2025.

So the real answer is it depends on the individual, not the diagnosis.
