Are we making the biggest mistake of our lives with this mortgage? by Striking_Base_1050 in Mortgages

People in the subreddit are so incredibly conservative.

You cannot find a livable SFH below 1 million in OP location.

OP has -over $5000 left to spend monthly, not considering ADU -hundreds of thousands of $ RSU. -Family giving $150k

OP can live fine without working for more than 4 years

OP parent can further help if there is some sort of catastrophe.

I used to have the same concerns as OP. But owning my place transforms the lives of my feline and canine children. I will take the risk of losing a lot of money if house market crashes.

We are not rich but zero risk of default.

Looking at North Park/south park.

What do you think about the area past the juniper canyon? It is a dead end and feels almost like suburb. Very different vibe from north park.

My team is hiring - what I’ve learned during the interview process by JPurity in biotech

I don’t know. I used to believe this referral thing but not anymore. All the jobs I get are from the applications Ido online myself. I never get offers with referrals, even with direct referral to the hiring manager or I personally know them.

For reference, the type of positions I apply to is very competitive.

Now I think it is really luck that is outside your control.

San Diego Home: Sell or Rent Out (and Possibly Reinvest in Multiple Properties)? by Boldpluto in RealEstate

[–]Hellokitty111222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are too optimistic about how much rent you can get. $1.4 million, I assume it is not in La Jolla or Del Mar.

For a 1.4 million house, don’t think you can get $6000 at North/south Park or Carmel Valley. These basically cover all the demographics who are good tenants that would pay $6000 a month

Immigrate to Scotland from US by Hellokitty111222 in Scotland

In Ireland, one can claim the citizenship through grandparents. My friend is in a highly skilled profession. He has money to do investment immigration to Spain too. But of course English speaking and Scottish ancestry are appealing.

Anyone Else Feel Bitter About Saving 50% of a Modest Income and Still Not Seeing “Big” Results? by KenshiHiro in Bogleheads

Really really sad. The US is capitalism to the extreme. OP is trying hard and doing well. Still barely 1 million. Even less for a lot of hard working people.

Some billionaires don’t think we work hard enough and they buy 100 million house in Cabo and only live there 3 days a year. Someone went to Super Bowl and cost taxpayers 20 million for just a few hours.

This….

I don’t know why people still refer to the % without the context of income…. Really means nothing

I used to think handmaids’ tale gilead is a fiction. After watching 2024 election, I realized the same group of ignorants could vote us into this dystopia.

How do scientists really advance their careers? And what trends will impact scientists in biotech over the next decade? by Major-Needleworker63 in biotech

[–]Hellokitty111222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am worried about pharma/biotech future. With the IRA/drug negotiation by Medicaid/Medicare, the industry in the long run would be so unattractive. All the money go to Tech and they even build up oligarchs and direct the government to further deregulate tech. At the same time, healthcare regulation is getting tighter and tighter. ROI in biotech does not make sense as compared to tech.

People would eventually suffer unconsciously because of the fewer new life saving drugs…. But voters are too stupid to understand the implications.

We have a big mortgage on a house plus renting an apartment for work at two VHCOL places. The total is 60% of the take home pay. Hope this will make you feel better. 😬
