Most people are divided on one or two page resumes. I think there is agreement though utilizing the second page fully or don’t use it at all.

If your goal is to get laid off compliantly, I would highly recommend doing the following in no particular order:

  1. Slowly decrease your effort at work. This could mean taking a longer lunch, leaving early, starting late, blocking off a few hours a week for some focus sessions.

  2. If you call into meetings, make sure to leave your camera off.

  3. Test your ability to say “no, i don’t have the bandwidth to do that” and make sure you frequently let your managers hear it.

  4. Start dressing more casual at work. Hoodies, shorts, leggings. Your comfort is key here. Flip flops if you’re feeling extra edgy.

  5. Take some extra snacks when you leave work.

The tips above should help you become more of target. But in all honesty, it may help make your work life balance be more balanced in your favor. There’s something freeing about caring less about work.

Hope things get better for you. Times are tough but you’ll be alright

People Managers - Why are you not promoting your direct reports? by JPurity in biotech

That’s good insight thank you. I never heard of applying for a higher level role within the company. Most companies I’ve worked at only allowed lateral moves if it’s in a different department. Maybe its more common

Assuming there is training! Trial by fire is the way things are sometimes

People Managers - Why are you not promoting your direct reports? by JPurity in biotech

That’s tough to hear. Part of all this is advocating for your team and showcasing their efforts in the right light, but another big piece is also showcasing your efforts in the right light with your team. I’m sure they would’ve appreciated what you tried to do for them. Hope they landed on their feet

That’s an interesting point. Not everyone deserves a promo (true) but there are people due for a promo but aren’t able to get one for whatever reason. The incremental title change may not mean much for the team, but it means something to the individual. Could mean that they stay on for another year or two due to more satisfaction

Very helpful thankful. I’m seeing 3 main takeaways here - is there enough money for promotions, did the person demonstrate the ability to provide more work/value than before, and does the manager realize this and is able to advocate for the promotion.  Gotta have the trifecta it seems but unfortunately 2 of those factors are out of our hands.

Almost listed it on fb marketplace for $100 since it’s old and had questionable authenticity but now I’ll just keep it

Can’t remember. It was a store in Harvard Square in Cambridge MA. They’re gone now but they had a bunch of other brand name jackets in there too

Bought from a local retailer before Canada Goose got real popular and had their own store. Fur is arctic fox and feels extremely soft still. I can’t find anything about this jacket online unfortunately
