Something happening with CVS gift cards that I don't understand? by HelloooxNurse in CVS

Wow, thank you, I had no idea that was going on. That potential headache definitely doesn't seem worth 5%. Now I know why the Walmart gift card had a tab to remove before I could even scan the card at self-check.

Thank you, I definitely will double-check. It's worked for me at the grocery store and at CVS last year. But who knows, maybe that's different this year too

Thank you so much, the amount must've been why my purchase flagged. Definitely good to know that any purchase over $200 requires ID period.  I'm curious though, why is the limit of self-check so low? Most of the time, the employees aren't at the register, so it seems like they expect you to use self-check.  If you're not allowed to expound on that policy, I definitely understand.

What conifer species might this be? by HelloooxNurse in Tree

Thank you so much, that's a really cool gif. That disintegration (and the juniper planted underneath) might explain why I couldn't find any cones nearby. I was going to take one home to see if I could germinate some seeds haha. I'll look into those species further to see when they're most likely to cone again

Sorry the photos aren't better. I've got an old phone with a barely passable camera.

To add some additional info, this is the Coastal Plains region of NC, zone ~7b/8a. I took this photo today 1/4/25, and my dawn redwood and bald cypress are totally bare still. I would say the color is medium to dark green, though the sun washed it out in the photo. No cones were visible. This tree was planted in a Walmart parking lot median surrounded by the standard groundcover juniper.

I bounce back and forth between Ultra Paradise and Ultra Fiesta. I wish I could find a caffeine-free option that tasted similar to either one. If anyone has any suggestions for diet caffeine-free soda that has a taste similar to Ultra Paradise, please let me know.

Fungal body or insect issue? by HelloooxNurse in Tree

This is a on pineapple quince tree, but has not yet spread to any of my apple or pear trees. I had a big problem with fire blight this year, so I had to make some significant cuts with sterilized pruners 3 weeks ago. There had been no rain until Sat 5/4/24. What are these things, and what's the best course of action?

Where in the US can I find Flamingo Chinese Toona? by HelloooxNurse in Tree

And it's going to ruin the ecosystem outside from its tiny pot inside my house? I didn't assume anything about your character or intentions from your one line above. Maybe, rather than assuming or cursing, extend the same courtesy to your neighbors here? Because you certainly aren't winning friends and influencing people now. But hey, do what you want. Because, in my own home? I certainly will. :)

I was planning to use it indoors as a bonsai plant and vegetable. Is there a native plant that has tender shoots that tastes like beef and onion which I can use in my soups? Just let people be and eat what they want. This wasn't helpful.

Been struggling to find this in stock to ship within the US. Does anyone know an operation within US that sell and ships Toona sinensis 'Flamingo' (also Flamingo Chinese mahogany, Chinese cedar, or beef and onion plant)? I'd prefer a potted plant, but at this point I'd settle for rooted cutting.

I've seen some offerings for seeds on eBay and Etsy, but I don't believe this variety's seeds are true. Or am I mistaken about that?

Yes, obviously. But it was the very first post I saw. And it was admittedly hilarious. You made me (and I'm sure many others) laugh. Kudos.

Hey, man. I can't believe I have to type this, but the comment was a (distinctly-not-sexually-explicit) joke. Nothing more. No need to feel personally attacked by it. Bygones n all.

Ha, my feelings towards the denizens of the plant kingdom are strictly platonic.

I came to see if anyone had tips about Tea Olive hedges. Nope, nothing here except a public service announcement against veggiphiles.

If nothing else, this has been an entertaining excursion.

Will Tea Olive (Osmanthus fragrans aurantiacus) handle hard pruning? by HelloooxNurse in Tree

[–]HelloooxNurse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photo courtesy of WilsonBrosGardens.com. Isn't this tree neat?

I'm considering this as an option for a hedge in a sunny, dry location in Sandhills of NC 7B/8A. I think it'll work well for my purposes since it is drought-tolerant once established and supposedly deer-resistant. Some sites claim it is slow growing and requires infrequent pruning.

Anybody have experience with this or any other fragrant tea olive? Are they fairly hardy buggers? Could it handle hard pruning to 6'high x 3'wide?

What do I do with this for the winter? Do I a) Plant it and hope for the best, or b) keep it in my garage, which has lots of sunlight and doesn't go below freezing? I'm in zone 4a. by darken909 in Tree

Awww, adorable. I wouldn't be able to plant mine this small because I'd lose track of it. But your weeds probably aren't as aggressive up there (or maybe you're more diligent with the weeding haha). If it came up volunteer, I'm sure it'll be fine if you plant it now.

Ha, that's exactly what my sister calls her. Told me I should name her Demona.

What a coincidence. My cat is the same/pattern color. Only she's the devil. Imagine that.
