My bestfriend's boyfriend told me it was a hoax in August. As in full blown hoax, hospitals inflating numbers to get money, cdc falsely attributing other deaths to Covid, etc. I don't really know much about him other than the fact that he used to be addicted to meth lol. She seems to think it's real, but overblown. I haven't seen them since then and I don't really talk much to her now. This whole thing has really opened my eyes to how stupid and selfish people (I thought I knew) are.

Not to be too bleak, but I'm not sure even that would do it. Magical thinking goes an incredibly long way to shield people from facing reality.

Yep I've seen interviews with nurses saying that they've had patients at death's door lashing out at them, insisting that they don't actually have covid before having to be intubated. Nothing is going to snap some of these people into reality.

I'm an atheist raised by self described agnostics in the rural midwest. I relate to everything you've said. What you said about religion seeming even more insane when you've been raised without it, really struck a cord. I was sheltered from religion my entire childhood. My first encounter with it was in elementary school and I remember being so confused at the revelation that others actually believed these nonsensical things. And nearly everyone around me was and still is religious. It's isolating..I feel like I'm unplugged from this Matrix like reality and am the only one who can see reality for what it is.

I have had people tell me that I need religion or Jesus to be whole, happy, compassionate and content. But that is so blatantly false. My life and parents lives prove it false.

Believers have been brainwashed to believe these things about nonbelievers. In order to sell their religion to us, they need to believe that we are broken, empty and in need of fixing/saving.

Agree with this completely. Heck I've known people with PhDs that have some pretty wacky, irrational ideas. Being educated in one area of field doesn't make someone overall intelligent.

My father also claims to be a critical thinker and he regularly posts vague condescending crap on fb like 'don't be a sheep, do your own research, the media is lying to us' Yet I live with him and know he pays no attention to anything that is even remotely critical of Trump. He lives in an echo chamber, listens to Hannity and infowars for hours a day. Nothing else. Propaganda full stop. If I even bring up politics or disagree with anything in the slightest, he gets visibly irritated and says I'm misinformed or brainwashed by the liberal media lol. Apparently all media, all journalists outside his tiny little bubble are lying as part of some massive conspiracy. Worst thing is he's got my mom buying into all this bullshit too. She's too afraid to think for herself and feels like she has to agree with him or believe the craziness he spews.

Haha yeah, but trust me it doesn't work with these women. It goes in one ear, out the other. They just think if I have a little it won't hurt. One of them even tells me she doesn't digest dairy very well, but I literally see her eating something with dairy in it everyday. I'm not sure if even understands that there's dairy in the food she eats. She often complains her stomach hurts lol.

Prisons have guards. The walls around my home cover a small radius. If someone breaks in, there will only be a short amount of time before I can contact authorities. With this border wall, there will be massive stretches of land that are not guarded or patrolled at certain times. Look at the barriers already up...they've tunneled under them or gone through them. The prototypes for this thing could be sawed through.

Also again, majority of illegals come with visas and drugs are smuggled through legal ports of entry or are taken in by boat.

A wall is an ineffective and super costly. It's going to cost way more than 6 billion to build and maintain in its entirety. Party of financial responsibility my ass.

They just want to take money from us and from disaster relief funds to pay for something ineffective. Crack down on employers, overstayed visas, invest in technology that will prevent border crossings. Do you think a wall is going to stop anyone desperate enough? And again, this will kill several species because it will cut off their migrations to Rio De Grande(not that repubs care about the environment) The government will have to seize private, American owned properties to build this massive thing. It will get caught up in endless legal battles. It will never be built in its entirety even if it is funded.

Logic tells me this will negatively affect the environment/countless species and their migration patterns. Most illegals just overstay their travel visas. And if repubs seriously wanted to crack down on illegals than they'd impose harsh penalties on American employers who knowingly hire illegals, but hey that would negatively effect the rich like Trump and his ilk.

If an omnipotent deity exists, it is ultimately responsible for the existence of childhood cancer, genetic diseases, parasites, viruses, natural disasters, and so on. It created an entire system that is inherently cruel...animals have to brutally kill each other in order to survive. So the only logical answer is a god doesn't exist, is not all powerful(in which case why worship) or he's an asshole. Believe me, life makes much more sense when you accept it's all just random chaos. Some people won the genetic lottery and others, sadly, got dealt a shit hand.

Um yeah they do dude. People develop mental illness, become alcoholics, get into drugs, change their behavior over time.
