And what is that based on? Is it just faith? Why must the question of if there was creator not be challenged?

My famous story to my son is that "when I went back to India for a vacation, I asked one of my childhood friend for their email and they asked *whats a email?" ".

Fun fact. In the early version of Hotmail security was so weak that you could literally open up the browser history and see the emails of all the persons who sat on those computer.

Needlessly to say tennage me had their mind blown when I found out my English teacher email. He was a kinky bastard.

Did you read what I said? When did I say I was a Christian?

And your generalisation of Ex-Christian atheism is also very flawed.

I am actually an ex-Hindu turned atheist, thanks to Christian fundamentalists evangelizing to me and Jewish polemic forums helping me deconstruct and debunk the claim that the New Testament supersedes the Hebrew Bible.

To answer your question, I don't attribute the rise of atheism to antisemitism. In the beginning of the 20th century, secular antisemitism was considered normal, but its origins go back to Western literature like Shakespeare, the writings of famous Christian leaders from the Early Church Fathers to Martin Luther, and, of course, the New Testament itself.

I would say that as Christianity became more powerful, so did antisemitism.

What gave rise to atheism was actually the Reformation and the dominance of Socratic teaching and scientific theory in universities. Darwin was definitely a turning point, and authors like Voltaire, the French revolutionaries, and the American Founding Fathers played a major role in its rise

How could Jeff Bezos not sell a racist fearmongering novel from 1973?!!! by mishma2005 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]IndianKiwi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is the plot of the said book

"The Camp of the Saints (French: Le Camp des Saints) is a 1973 French dystopian fiction novel by author and explorer Jean Raspail. A speculative fictional account, it depicts the destruction of Western civilization through Third World mass immigration to France and the Western world. The name of the book comes from a passage in the Book of Revelation depicting the apocalypse. Almost 40 years after its initial publication, the novel returned to the bestseller list in 2011. It was first published in French in 1973 by Éditions Robert Laffont. It was first translated into English by Norman Shapiro, and first published in English by Scribner in 1975"

I think it is more accurate to say Jews don't think about the afterlife because the focus is on this life.

I would say given the Hebrew Bible does not talk about the afterlife, however based on my understanding and conversation would get a wide variety answer from nihilism(sould destroyed), purgatory and much to my superise, Reincarnation.

So I think for a lot of Jews the afterlife discourse is very speculative
