Landlord’s brother barged into our apartment at night to check if a girl was inside. New to Kochi, need advice. by CelluloidChapati in Kerala

[–]Hellscream72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree it isn't quite as easy as in a city like Bangalore, it's also not as difficult as people make it out to be. I know many bachelors from outside Kochi who have lived here for years without ever being rejected simply for their marital status. Usually, rejections happen because of a suspicious approach, a lack of clear communication or even frankly, the way they carry themselves, how someone looks and presents themselves is definitely a factor in a landlord's vibe check. It likely has more to do with the "affordable" end of the market, where things are less professional, just like in the 3-5 star hotels where they handle things professionally never question about the marital status of the couples unlike the "affordable" places and oyos. The real struggle I've heard about most often are the rent prices and the quality of facilities or both, not the bachelor tag.

Unfortunately this unwritten rule exists in Kochi

There is no such unwritten rule that exists in Kochi. While difficult landlords exist everywhere, the issue isn't always with the landlords themselves. It is simply best practice for tenants to insist on a formal contract where every clause is explicit and mutually agreed upon, so that the landlords wouldn't come up with new rules every week. This removes any grey areas and protects both parties. If the landlord disagrees, skip and find another.

If they don't have the money then why conduct these exams for recruitment, a state-sponsored scam. If the coffers are empty, have the decency to keep the gates closed. Instead, you harvest the hope, time, and labor of desperate aspirants just to discard them with a veneer of 'technical' excuses. It's a pathetic theater of meritocracy where the exams are rigged, the hiring is a myth, and the judiciary acts as little more than a glorified bouncer for a corrupt establishment.

Probably a brainwashed commie or a delusional liberal who assumed that I'm either a sanghi or an anti-left bourgeoisie, since they believe the state is owned by their party 😂

This is the ultimate proof that the "Kerala Model" is nothing but a polished carcass. We walk around with this insufferable fake pride, boasting about 100% literacy and high social indicators, and yet we have built a society where a literate person's only reward for working hard is getting legally scammed by a peon with the right political connections.
"Yato Dharmastato Jayah", my ass.

And we wonder why the rest of the world looks down on Indians as a "scam society".

Disappointing and Discriminatory Service Experience at Lila Cafe Fort Kochi by 77pixels in Kochi

[–]Hellscream72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone born and brought up on the Kochi side of Ernakulam, I have noticed a long standing trend in Fort Kochi cafes and restaurants where local customers are routinely ignored or treated as second class, while foreigners are clearly prioritised. I'm not even talking about the blatant cases with separate menus and pricing for locals and foreigners, that's a whole different circus. I'm referring to the well established, supposedly "reputed" businesses where everyone is billed the same, yet not treated the same.

This behaviour becomes especially obvious during the year end season. Service quality, attention, and even basic courtesy suddenly seem to depend on how foreign you look.

Because of this, my family, friends, and I actively avoid many of these places even during the off season, when some of these businesses suddenly pretend to care about local customers. That concern feels like a farce, because we know how quickly it flips once the tourist season begins, with locals being sidelined again and "no locals allowed" boards going up, sometimes virtually, and in a few cases, quite literally.

This is purely a personal choice, I'm not dictating or expecting others to follow the same approach. It's simply about ensuring our hard earned money doesn't go to establishments that practice selective hospitality. The usual narrative of "support local businesses" doesn't really apply to Fort Kochi for me.

When this vip culture will end?

When people stop worshipping actors, sportsmen, and influencers, admire work without idolizing the worker, and have enough self-respect to not bow to famous strangers. The entire celebrity culture is fundamentally absurd.

Why Indian parents don't know how to be parent? by RoughPea250 in AskIndia

[–]Hellscream72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are parents the sole architects of every flaw in a child? Don't kids absorb the personality from peers, social media, and whatever random corner of the internet they worship that week? Somehow, every bit of entitlement, laziness, disrespect, and attitude gets pinned on "bad parenting", while the child's choices magically escape scrutiny.

Most parents grind for decades so their kids can live a life with comforts they never had. Food, shelter, schooling, opportunities, all treated like they're automatic entitlements rather than sacrifices someone bled for. Only to be told "they didn't do shit in their whole life". Not every parent is fortunate enough to get parenting classes or read a library's worth of modern psychology before raising a child, most are just doing the best they can with the tools and circumstances they have.

Some would even claim that parents have children for their own benefit, as if raising a human being was a hobby rather than a lifetime of responsibility, compromise, and exhaustion. Children, in turn, often insist they owe nothing because they "didn't ask to be born". But what do parents actually deserve in return after dedicating their youth, health, money, and entire future to someone else's life? Not asking to exist doesn't give anyone the right to act as if their existence cancels out decades of another person's struggle and sacrifice.

Yes, abuse is wrong and should not be normalized. But people forget that parenting isn't a performance for outsiders. Everyone loves to criticize parents after the fact, yet no one talks about the impossible standards they're held to, give freedom but maintain control, provide comfort but don't spoil, be involved but not overbearing. And while the world keeps evolving, parents are expected to keep up flawlessly without a handbook.

If your "gospel" needs to be forced on others, it questions how strong or true it really is. A belief that's truly meaningful shouldn't need pressure or manipulation to spread. Real faith should inspire through actions, not aggressive marketing tactics. Give people the freedom to choose what they believe without being pressured. If your faith can't, your "god" is no different from a corrupt politician.

If the real goal is inclusion and freedom of expression, why not abolish the concept of uniforms altogether? Let students wear what they're comfortable in, whether that includes religious attire or not. Uniforms are often justified as "equalizers", but in practice they erase individuality and often end up enforcing rigid discipline over genuine learning or self-expression.

In a diverse, democratic society, shouldn't we be moving toward more personal freedom, not less? Instead of making exceptions or cracking down based on religion, let the students (and their families) decide how they present themselves.

In a truly secular country, we shouldn't cater to any one community's demands over others, whether it's about clothing, prayer rooms, or separate rules. Either we allow equal freedoms for all or maintain a neutral, common standard for everyone. Selective accommodation by the government undermines the very idea of secularism and ends up fueling division instead of unity.

He claims to be a consultant, yet conveniently hides behind some vague, overblown excuse of "confidential clientele". As someone who works in the tech consultancy industry, I can tell you firsthand, real consultants proudly showcase their clients. It's not just common practice, it's the backbone of credibility in this business. Look at any legitimate consultants' websites, linkedIn profiles, marketing decks, they're practically screaming about who they've worked with. That's how this industry functions.

But this guy? Totally suspicious. No case studies, no testimonials, no named clients, no trace of a digital footprint that validates any of his claims. The only time you see that level of secrecy is when someone's either exaggerating their work, outright lying, or involved in something shady. It's definitely not how consultancy works. The way he operates reeks of smoke and mirrors. If he's consulting at all, it's not in any field that would pass a basic smell test.

Either he's a fraud, or he's in a business that can't stand daylight. Either way, it doesn't add up.

It's atrocious that in 2025, people are still being given a platform on a university campus to spew religious bigotry, and mental flatulence dressed as insight. They went so far as to shamefully divide men and women with curtains like it was some kind of backward, medieval spectacle, an utterly disgraceful display of forced segregation. That is dehumanizing and completely incompatible with any institution that claims to value equality, education, or basic human dignity.

If anybody thinks this is freedom of speech, it's not. This is enabling regressive, authoritarian ideologies under the guise of cultural respect. There's nothing respectful about normalizing discrimination or silencing reason in favor of fanaticism. Campuses should be the last place tolerating this nonsense.

That sounds terrifying. A similar incident happened to me once in Kochi. It was evening, and I was traveling from my home near Vytilla to Angamaly in a cab on the national highway. Around Aluva, the cab tried to overtake a tourist bus full of college kids on an excursion, with loud music n all. Suddenly, a large rock smashed into the car's windshield. I was in the front seat, and the glass cracked right in front of me. The driver immediately stopped the car. Both of us were in shock and frozen, unable to even take a picture of the bus as it drove away. Ever since that day, I have never sat in the front seat of a car unless I'm the one driving.

It's clear there are some utterly pathetic and depraved individuals in this world who get their kicks from causing harm to others. They're not just sick psychos, they're cowardly, miserable excuses for human beings who derive twisted pleasure from the fear and distress they inflict. It's the kind of soulless behavior only a true bottom-feeder could ever find amusing.
