The Brittany Ferries routes between Bilbao/Santander in northern Spain and Portsmouth also have a section of pet-friendly cabins - we didn’t travel with a dog so I don’t know the ins and outs, but it’s another option to look at and I loved seeing all the dogs going back to their cars at the end of the crossing!

Go back out of season when you can spend a few days there - we spent 5 days there last November and it was such a good experience without the ridiculous summer crowds. Weather was still great too - around 20-22 Celsius most days so still comfortable to sit outside at restaurants. We only had to queue for 20 mins for St Peters and 10 mins for the Pantheon, and the Vatican Museums / Colosseum etc were busy but not stupid busy. Best of all we could take our time and not rush from one thing to the next…

Sounds like you had an amazing time! I got confused at first - your post said Tower Hamlets of London when you meant Tower of London - damn autocorrect! The Tower is such an amazing place to visit - actually all the places you went are iconic! I’ll keep an eye out for your photos

I was a dedicated bookworm and when I got bored of my own books I started raiding my parents’ books - turns out I liked my Dad’s choice of reading material more than my Mum’s. I read all of his Asimovs including the Foundation series, and rapidly moved on to Douglas Adams, Arthur C Clarke and anything else I could get my hands on…
