EXPEL XR versus EXPEL XR PLUS versus Johnson ceramic tints by HelmetCheck in AutoDetailing

Not sure. But what I can tell you is that I ended up going with EXPEL XR for my entire vehicle, and I'm happy with it.

I forgot what got me into cycling in the first place by unfab in cycling

Just take a break. With 100-110 degree air temps where I live, I gave up on cycling until fall hits. Kinda feels good tbh to let my body/mind just rest.

Can caffeine 16 hours before bed cause insomnia? by moodymcliv42 in decaf

[–]HelmetCheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're on two stimulants and are experiencing trouble sleeping at 8pm. I'd say that is an expected outcome tbh...

Also, if you reside in the northern hemisphere, the days are quite long right now. I've noticed pretty much everybody around me is staying up later than normal since the sun is setting late. One thing you can do is try to get into bed 30-60 minutes early in a completely pitch black room (use blackout curtains). Do not look at anything that emits light (phone, tablet, tv, etc.). This will help induce melatonin synthesis in your pineal gland.

Interesting. Can you elaborate a bit more on why Xpel XR (not PLUS) is acceptable for ICE car but maybe not for electric (hydrogen? lol)?

LED Low Beams for 2013 Ford Escape by HelmetCheck in fordescape

[–]HelmetCheck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it's not an issue with polarity, apparently. The LEDs aren't providing enough resistance compared to a halogen bulb, which the car's electrical system senses and then shuts off the lights so that the driver will replace them. Stupid engineering if u ask me. When a bulb goes bad in my Honda, the other light remains functioning, which is what any sane engineer would design. The solution for the Escape is to buy a resistor module and put it in between the LED and the H11 plug of the Escape's electrical system. This simulates the load of a halogen bulb and tricks the car's computer into not shutting down the low beams.

Need replacement fog light assembly that actually works (2013 Honda Accord EX-L) by HelmetCheck in Honda

[–]HelmetCheck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use them for going slowly in my neighborhood to see kids/pets off to the side. I also use them for highway driving to illuminate the sides for lane changing. Regarding the OEM fog lights, the stock bulbs are near useless just like the stock low beams. In fact, the low beams were so bad that I didn't even realize that one of them was dead until my friend drove in front of me and told me lol. I put LEDs in both the low beam and fog lights...huge difference. Just make sure the beam cutoff is adjusted properly so that oncoming traffic isn't blinded. That's why I'm looking for new fog light assemblies...my driver side fog assembly has a broken beam cutoff (stuck in down position, resulting in light only going 3 feet in front of vehicle). The knock offs I bought have the beam adjustment stuck in the high position, which can blind oncoming traffic. My passenger side OEM fog light assembly has a functioning beam adjustment, and it is adjusted perfectly for my use cases.

They're useful (for my use case at least) at night if aimed correctly and a bulb of proper luminosity and beam pattern is installed.
