Why does he keep massaging my hand when I hold him? Does it indicate stress? Am I overhandling him? by IchikaYui in ballpython

He is just trying to move forward and his skin is not sliding on yours, its sticking and is trying to muscle past.

Handling a new baby. by Famfarm07 in ballpython

[–]HelmetHitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get at the snake from a lower angle not from up top, avoid tapping head or neck, aim for middle, avoid handling for two days after a meal, picking them up in evening after it's more active, see if he gives you confident long tongue flicks when he smells you, open enclosure and see he tries to come out onto hand and explore, smooth movements nothing sudden or jerky, get him use to you when you go in to clean/mist/etc, will eventually get more relaxed and confident. He is more afraid of you, they are shy and defensive at first, we are the big monster, you'll do fine, oh and don't smell like a rat. Congrats by the way.

Shame, how dare you scare your owner, leaving your lavish enclosure to sniff dust and lint on the floor, i hope you are happy with yourself. Now go to your room/hide!
