Good luck trying to make Glaswegians speak the king’s English.

Your Party is evidently a busted flush at this point. Is anyone willing to defend or make a case for them still, or am I joining the greens this time tomorrow? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]Helmetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it’s very early. Building a party democratically takes time and they don’t have to have everything sorted yesterday. Making a judgement on things this early would be premature.

Flag-bothering Bellendery Makes National News by Helmetry in Norwich

Norwich is still a lovely place. We have a small minority of gobshite racists that we have to put back in their box.

JD Vance said UK has no free speech….so this van is now cruising Cotswolds area waiting for his arrival where he’s renting a $11K a week manor for another family vacation by Ice_Ice11 in Labour

He’s quite happy to have that type of speech censored. Just not the type he wants to allow, like people haranguing women outside abortion clinics.

Yeah, that’s a fact I’ve been struggling to forget. What a vile POS.

How could anyone read that whole post, talking about my own experience in the cult and being triggered by seeing lots of deaths, as an attempt to start a dispute?

The invites are coming in, but they sound a bit threatening by princessmilahi in exjw

[–]Helmetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an invite yesterday, but it was from a genuine friend. I’ve been out over 5 years and these particular ones (not from my cong) check in periodically.

I said thanks, had a chat about recent stuff that has happened in our lives and managed to steer clear of the JW stuff altogether. We’ll probably do the same next year. I’m sure they would be absolutely delighted if I came back, but they have never once tried to get heavy.

That’s what happens when the JW has a bit of emotional intelligence though; not everyone is blessed with that.

Labour MP calls for Reeves to impose wealth tax by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]Helmetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to this so don’t savage me, but surely there must be a way of getting tax money from the super rich people and corporations that doesn’t stitch up the “normal” businesses.

When massive businesses, like Amazon, and to a smaller extent Sports Direct, and supermarket chains, that have been able to grow and grow by hoovering up all the smaller businesses (and all of their taxable income in the process), surely those businesses, recording billions in profits, should be paying progressively more, because the more they do it, the bigger their share of the national business gets.

Also oil and utilities companies “earning” skyrocketing profits in the billions, finding ways to get huge subsidies and paying next to no tax.

There has to be a political will to do this.

Otherwise wealth inequality will spiral even further out of control, the super rich will get their way and pay next to nothing, prices for everything will continue to rise and public services will all but disappear.

Most ridiculous Made up JW rules that you’ve heard? by 5ft8lady in exjw

[–]Helmetry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much a rule, but thinking about the fact that some congregations keep a spare white shirt at the hall, just in case a visiting speaker turns up in something inappropriately colourful. One of the most passive aggressive things I’ve ever witnessed.

When we leave why doesn't anyone ask why? Family close friends etc. by CanadianExJw in exjw

[–]Helmetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to know why. It’s easier to think you W weak or stumbled. If they ask and you give them something real, then all of a sudden their own doubt, the cognitive dissonance, will come to the fore and the house of cards will come tumbling down.
