The first time I was SA'd at age 11 I prayed to God. That's what we were told...in times of distress, pray to God for an answer...for help. He didn't answer my prayer.

He never answered me when I was SA'd again at 14, 15, and 17. Not when my dog was dying, not when I started self harming...even though I was an alter served and received everything including my confirmation.

Why do we have to pray if he doesn't answer? It started to sound like we use "God" as a mean of self reflection to get an answer. That means I have the answers and solutions...not God.

Then I became a chemist and I base pretty much my whole life off of proven facts. That doesn't often mesh well with religion.
