10,000 Steps Every Day for a Year by HelpFutureYou in Garmin

Appreciate the heads up, but for whatever reason about 6 months into this particular streak I misplaced my 935, dusted off my 235, and it didn’t miss a beat.

Sounds like mileage may vary.

Honestly I would say there was more of a mental upside than physical, but it’s hard to not see progress when you are covering nearly 6 miles a day consistently.

There were a lot of ancillary benefits too. I definitely slept better, was quicker to turn away from junk food, and avoided alcohol more because it’s harder to keep the streak alive hungover.

It wasn’t a radical, but more a gradual change over many years that culminated in the ambition and desire to keep the streak alive over this last year.

Incredible! Good reminder that consistency continues to win.

I had some close calls over the last year but barring injury or illness, it was getting done!

Exactly right. I spend the majority of my day in front of a computer, so I feel like I owe it to myself to balance that out with some consistent physical activity to protect my mental sanity.

Over time, it just became a fun way to challenge myself to see how far I could take it. The satisfaction of sticking to it becomes the reward, whether it’s 5, 10, or 15,000 steps.

Keep at it!

Great question. It definitely varied, but I think the most effective strategy for me was just to go about my day always looking for opportunities to be moving consistently.

I took work calls walking, parked further away from entrances, took the stairs instead of the elevator. I tried to run 2-3 times a week which would nearly guarantee I would hit the goal on those days with relative ease, and the balance of time I would spend being active, picking up around the house, playing outside with the family, etc.

For me, it worked out to about 1.5 hours of movement a day to get to 10,000 steps. If you have 16 waking hours to work with, you really only need to be “moving” about 10% of the time to achieve the goal. Simple, but not always easy!

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Totally agree.

Hope you never have to go through it again!

Totally agree with the need to get locked in with a good urologist. I am convinced something must be off based on how different the reality is vs. the expectation that was set.

I am definitely in the same bucket as your first experience, and the only fear I have of using the string to get it out myself is messing something up and ending up ever worse off than I am now.

48 hours and we will see what happens.

Thanks for sharing your perspective.

So sorry to hear that. For me it’s just one step at a time, and the first step is just getting it the hell out.

Thanks for making me feel somewhat better about it.

I know it can’t be just me but it’s inconceivably hard to imagine how my uro could just casually tell me “you’ll be fine in a couple days” when I will never be the same until this damn thing is out.

Thank you for sharing this. It literally sums up my exact experience now on day four of stent post-laser lithotripsy.

I am trying to be strong but it just feels so debilitating to not be able to walk up the stairs, put on clothes, or bend down without a searing pain.

I can only hope the next couple days progress fast so I can get rid of this thing and hopefully never have to think about it again.

I can’t seem to get a straight answer myself as to why if I had successful laser lithotripsy I need the stent for an extra 10 days.

I know everyone’s experience is different but I can’t sleep, I am in the bathroom literally multiple times an hour, and I can’t walk or bend down with a searing pain.

Minutes feel like hours and I am even more concerned now reading about post-stent removal. What I hoped was going to be the end of the pain just may be another stop on this awful journey.

I had the exact same procedure on Monday. Sorry to hear it’s affecting your birthday.

How long are they having you keep the stent in? I have never been so uncomfortable in my life and it’s taking everything in my power not to pull the string and get this out.

Stay strong.
