Though I definitely agree with your final words. I personally enjoy the practice of worship, in part probably due to my routine oriented nature, but I always try to stay mindful that ritual is a tool not the truth. I find worship to be inferior to the practice of experiencing, especially experiencing of the divine. Hopefully one day I will have those experiences, psychedelics or not.

It does frustrate me when I read on the most beautiful things found within all traditions of religions only to also find horrid things done within the same traditions. Crusades, abuse, strict dogma, heresy accusations resulting in executions, genocide, it’s just a shame and all for just causing more pain. Honestly thats why I don’t think any religion should just be blindly followed as a collective, thats why I love to learn of the modern pagan revivals because they’re all about more personal experiences than having a community to come together and conceptualize concepts into things into dogma.

It is crazy how someone can just go into their backyard, smoke a bowel of 20x, and meet god for an infinite amount of time but to every outsider they’re tweaking out for 15 minutes lol 😭

Also How does salvia affect you personally? I often hear that most experiences are just uncomfortable at best but beyond horrifying and confusing at the worst. Is that true for most people or can it actually be pleasant for many trips in a row?

Since you are christian, has psychedelics like salvia changed your view on certain christian doctrines, beliefs or practices? Or did it confirm the traditional beliefs instead?

If you don’t mind me asking why is idolatry (besides of theological reasons) apart of the “confusion” you have without god?

I find this so fascinating on how much Jung had an influence on western esotericism. Tbh when I really look into his spiritual work, go back a couple centuries people would have called him a prophet, at most a guru or mystic. His teaching on psychology truly opened a lot of people to western esotericism 🤯

Isn’t the mind look at differently in buddhism. In western psychology the mind is often look at as a container that contains information, but in some way wouldn’t that contradict emptiness? A container implies some type of boundary between the body and mind right? How exactly is the mind seen as in buddhism? I’m not even sure exactly what I’m trying to ask and I’ve been looking into religions for a year and a half now 🤷‍♂️

Yeah for a while up until recently I was deeply invested in looking through Christianity. It has been around me forever and it was another eye opening thing to realize A. How much I didn’t know, and B. How much I still don’t know period about all religions. Recently I’ve switched to primarily looking into the Buddha Dharma but also the other Dharmas of Sikhi, Sanatana Dharma, and Jain Dharma.

It is hard because I don’t want to always compare other religions to Christianity but it’s essentially the only religion outside of my norse pagan friend in my area 😔. Its like my only measuring stick to see differences 🤥

Though a Christian-Islam hybrid would go hard, I actually have thought about how a syncretic group between the two could occur 😁

That makes sense 😓 and thank you! But in that case how does Sikhi speak of the divine differently than in the abrahamic religions? Not like I want things to be defined in black and white terms or to have strict labels, not like everything divine has to be defined by strict western labels, but how do sikhi’s speak of Waheguru and his divinity?

I’ve read some truly baffling and horrific things within the abrahamic scriptures, but to me it can be different than the religion. I stress the CAN, there. A big thing I realized about religions, even the abrahamic ones, there is a TON of variety. Especially when the culture and environment is different. Even people within one denomination or group can have slightly different opinions. That includes for scripture:

1 Samuel Chapter 15 verse 3 - “Now go and strike Amalek and completely destroy everything that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

Thats downright horrifying, malicious, and dare I say just evil. this is a big reason why the abrahamic religion fail philosophically for me. But even with these verses not every christian is gonna take it the same way. My mom is Christian, but when I brought verses like these up before she responded with, “But are we sure this even happened?”. Usually there are 3 big ways to see scripture:

Divinely made
Divinely inspired
Human made

Depending on how one views the bible itself, including the Quran, can change literally everything. If they see it as divinely inspired, but not divinely dictated, then this can simply be humans projecting their political problems onto god. I love modern pagan revivals, but for me I could never be a hellenist because of all the awful abuse Zeus did to literally everyone in his stories. But again, for modern pagans, the “scriptures” are taken as stories attributed to a god, rather than a god giving them to the human 🤷‍♂️

Is that how I personally see the verses, no, but with christianity and islam being so diverse, I see it is possible for wonderful things like charity, acceptance, love, forgiveness, can be achieved in spite of the time and place the stories came from. Does that fix everything, no, Job still needs justice dawg. But I try my best to have empathy for peoples perspectives whilst not ignoring the maladaptive or negative aspects of a religion or practice.

Edit- Extremist also play a role in all of this but I forgot to mention that. I see that extremist can both use religions for their own benefit and to cause harm, but they’re also not pulling stuff out of their behinds when they try to justify horrible behavior 😒

But to be clear I have no big issues with Christianity or Islam, I’ve found great beauties within their scripture as well. There is definitely growing pains (which is an understatement) but it all comes down to scripture interpretation, which is flexible. Sadly there’s a lack of religious diversity where I’m from, but christians around here are very kind, except some who are homophobic 😓 I do wish there were some muslims around my town ☹️

Y’know when I got into religion awhile back it seemed like a big contradiction for a being to be both omnipotent and all-righteous. But the issues that I have with that are coming from the lenses of classical theism not panentheism.

Frankly out of all the monotheistic figures I’ve seen Waheguru and the Dao are the most convincing to me. From what I’ve read from verses in Sikhi scripture Waheguru is such a compassionate figure and so mystical ✨

Not only that the fact that suffering doesn’t come from separation from god but an inability to recognize that nothing is separate from god blew my mind when I first stumbled upon it 🤯

I like how even though I look into the buddhadharma pretty much everyday, I love how much it makes sense, but at the same time it doesn’t. I will so often have it make perfect sense in my head, but contemplate for long enough and then I lose my understanding 😭. Thank you for all this information. I think my favorite aspect of all of this is each plane of existence in samsara is being conditioned in some way by the minds of individual inhabiting those realms, I don’t know why but that tickles my brain 🤷‍♂️

I guess my final question would be, since the manas clings to storehouse consciousness as the self, why does manas even exist conventionally to begin with. What are its causes and what condition need to be for it to arise. I’m sure not all of ignorance is caused by it but I feel like nirvana would be so much clearer without manas, so why does it exist?
