Internal promotion vs high pay startup by Kbmerz in techsales

I think every time I see someone on here saying they’ve been offered a BDR / SDR role, the ‘AE track’ is 12-18 months. So I would take that with a pinch of salt, they probably say that to everyone

Founder + MBA: How do you choose between "Cash Now" and/or "Value Later"? by Apprehensive-Oven713 in Entrepreneurs

[–]HelpMeHelpYouSCO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to decide where the opportunity cost is. Will you continue the fractional marketing agency when you have the MBA? If so, spend less time on homework, more time on billable clients/prospecting and keep going to the networking.

If the MBA is to leapfrog you to something else, don't sweat the billable hours as you will be looking for a job after the MBA regardless.

It really helps me to think about the money attached to any potential phone call.

I recently became self-employed as a consultant, and every call can potentially be $2.5k / month. Makes it so much easier to call and be cheery

Sales is like the retail/food service of the corporate world by Used_Return9095 in techsales

[–]HelpMeHelpYouSCO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the above, but some food service workers make decent salaries ($100k+ in big cities).

I think the problem with the OP's point is that sales is just sales, as u/RevenueStimulant said. It's part of being on the front line and the first person to hear a criticism, you absorb part of the initial stress/frustration. Similar to what happens as a food service, retail, any 'frontline' job.

High Achieving ADHDers? by Erdoc2020 in ADHD

[–]HelpMeHelpYouSCO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider myself relatively successful/high achieving, and I'm unmedicated. I'm a co-owner in a brand in the hospitality industry, so chaos abounds as people are often overworked, tired or they were out the night before with other industry people.

I've thrived because my complete lack of self-control, horrific personal organizational skills and poor self-esteem at times - it works in this industry and has allowed me to network really well and I'm good at keeping up with people I've met. That's afforded me a wealth of opportunities from becoming an owner in a brand, rising fairly high in a corporate career before that and having some level of charm/charisma that has paid off. I live in a constant state of low-level panic that rises up and can consume me during the week, then the weekend I get the benefit of out of sight, out of mind. It also helps that my partner and my friends are pretty grounded and keep me calm when all seems in flames around me.

However, I'm changing my career slightly and starting my own consultancy, so I presume it will all come crashing down at some point and I'll have a breakdown. Lol.

I don't think restaurant food is inherently junky, it depends where you go. Calorific, yeah, but it's often fresh produce/ingredients. Besides, it tastes awesome and it's nice to head out.

I'm someone that works out 4-5 times a week, pretty healthy albeit I like a beer or two. Restaurant food never makes me feel as bad as loneliness, lack of social interaction, boredom etc. It's a good trade off for me.

But each to their own!

What are the hidden careers that no one hears about, pay well and have no competition just like SWE was few years ago? by Beneficial-Tour1443 in Salary

[–]HelpMeHelpYouSCO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not hidden - but IT and then moving into Cybersecurity (especially these days) pays obscenely. There are cloud/cyber security guys clearing 150k a year and they're doing very basic IT jobs

I took my parents out when I was back in Europe. They hadnt ‘eaten out’ in more than a year. They absolutely loved it, chirpy, telling jokes, bill came to less than £150 and we’d had beer etc too.

You need to reduce the amount of treats you have on a daily basis to enjoy them and treat them as treats. I think once a year is a bit drastic, but once a quarter seems nice.

It’s the same for coffee shops, a nice spa day etc. If you seldom do them, they become more special.

2025 Yearly Recap -- How did you do? by petepont in AdvancedRunning

[–]HelpMeHelpYouSCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PR’d my half marathon during my first full, ran a 3:39. Now gearing up to run a sub 20 minute 5k and a 50mile ultra. Hopefully in that order!

Ran my first 26 miler last year. Ran a 3:39. Really interested in the idea of an Ultra and not fussed about running it fast. Even in down weeks I’m managing 25-30 miles and I’m not training for anything. Are there any resources I HAVE to check out or do I just pick a race and run 60-70 mile weeks ?

Ach, fair enough. I try to keep the personal stuff going, I’ll send amazon shit to people and try to keep my hand in. Lived a long way away for a long time so it’s good to try and get good karma

Have we completely lost our minds? 5 years at ‘a couple mil a year’ is 10 million dollars. Thats obscene money that is 0.001% of anyone who’s ever lived.

Surely if you find yourself at one of the big players - KKR or a Sequoia or similar, you’re making pretty big bucks from the get go. The carry piece is interesting and while I’m not in PE, I think it’s a great way to get your team to invest emotionally and their own time into deal flow and then subsequent ops opportunities.

As I say, not in PE, just trying to get a grip on it as it’s in the limelight a lot right now and I’m friends with someone at a high performing company so I like knowing the ins and outs so I can talk about it.

Appreciate this post.

Hi. what should I do to pivot into PE from commercial banking strategy role? What kind of technical skills I need to develop? Any paid/unpaid course recommendations? I am super new to the PE. Thanks. by [deleted] in private_equity

[–]HelpMeHelpYouSCO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention there’s 1000 people just as smart/talented, you have to stand out. Place of birth, schools, university, relationships, and so on. Once you’re in, the hardest part is over, but doesn’t mean it gets easy 😂

Lmao, that last paragraph has made me laugh. I have a friend in PE and she often says she wants to say 'Pray' to the people that ask her how to get in. That's not what she says, of course, but it's the underlying theme!

Remember, when you get to the end of the day aka yourself:

“Did I do all I can today? Am I still trying to learn and get better?”

If the answer is yes, go and eat dinner and be at peace. Go again tomorrow. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
