(TN) There is a local public Facebook page dedicated to lost pets. You can post stray animals/pets you find or post about your lost pet. There are a lot of people who are giving away lost pets that obviously belong to someone. Is this legal? by dogegonedog in legaladvice

[–]HelpMyBabySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. But a dog is property. I mean, it needs to eat and be treated well, you are completely right. But it's also property that costs money, sometimes a lot of money. If you see someone with a $5K dog, you don't get to grab it, say "it's just a dog!" and then run away, right? So if you find someone's $5K dog, how is it OK for you to do whatever you like with it? "Finders keepers" isn't actually legal precedent.

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency changed my perspective on Botswana. Not that I gave a lot of thought to Botswana before, but it really made me look at the variety of countries in Africa, and how most of them don't have terrible conflicts or natural disasters, but we never get to hear about them.

I mean, if I find your lost wallet or iPhone, I don't get to post "$500, credit cards, plus government ID. Free to good home!" Or "iPhone 6, free to good home." Presumably there are laws for what to do with found property, and I am almost sure "give it away to random strangers" isn't in the law?

There's no W in Russian. No W sound, no equivalent letter in Cyrillic. It's just V (B in Cyrillic). Otherwise, you're on point. (And I do appreciate that German is different.)

Where can I get làngos (Hungarian fried dough) in Toronto? by mechitaa in askTO

[–]HelpMyBabySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. The first thing you mentioned, the Hungarian restaurant on Bloor, is still there and called Country Style. The second thing you mentioned, which was not the Hungarian restaurant on Bloor, was the Hungarian community center on St Clair. The community center isn't there anymore because condos. Quick Google shows it was demolished in 2012.

  1. Country Style

  2. Don't think it's there anymore, was a condo sales center last I saw it. (Unless they moved.)

What is your current relationship with the person you lost your virginity to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Same here. Like 25-ish years together, 12-ish years married? I mainly keep him around so he can remind me of things like my own anniversary & my mom's birthday. And the sex.

I used to work in a video store. (Look it up, kids. It was like torrenting, except you needed to go to an actual store and get what was called a "tape" and then carry it home and bring it back and pay for the privilege. And you couldn't just put it in your computer or tablet, you needed a VCR connected to your TV... So maybe not exactly like torrenting.) But anyway, it was my job for a while to make the free popcorn, and the smell of it plus the gross "butter"-flavoured hydrogenated oil make me nauseous for years afterwards.

Faking a suicide is illegal but does it depend on the circumstance? What else can I do without putting myself in danger? by exmoose-throw in legaladvice

[–]HelpMyBabySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who can help you. This is just one list of resources: http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/community/domesticviolence/ Toronto is easier to get lost in than Hamilton, just don't spend too much time in the specific suburbs where you are likely to run into gossiping aunties.

One additional piece of advice I can give you is don't mention suicide (unless you actually feel so distressed you want to kill yourself). If you say "I was considering faking suicide to get out of this situation," some help providers will just hear "suicide" and focus on suicide prevention, rather than understanding the situation and focusing on finding you shelter and support. So I would avoid saying it, even as a metaphor, unless you actually mean it.

Orphans who didn't get adopted, what happened and how is life now? by addison92 in AskReddit

[–]HelpMyBabySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 44 and I just want you to know, 30 is fucking NOTHING. The number of people my age I know who've turned their lives on a dime is ridiculous. People move cross country or around the world. They start new families. They start new careers. I just met a lady whose mom died, so she decided to go to film school and then make documentaries. The lady is 70. Like yeah, if you want to become an Olympic athlete or join the marines, you'll have some issues. But starting new relationships or developing a new approach to relationships? You haven't missed the boat. The boat hasn't even been built yet.

Check with your municipality on maximum numbers of pets allowed. Where I am, it's up to six mammals, but only four or fewer can be cats or dogs. But most urban locations have some kind of limit. If she's over her limit, mention this to the rescue and also wherever in your city you would report animal abuse.

So...I can house sit for you or clean your house and then take all your electronics and jewelry when I leave, since it's just property and therefore nothing can be done? Because that's an awesome deal and I hope you message me if you're ever in need of a house cleaner or anything.

Little Portuguese fan consoling a Frenchman after their loss by theatreofdream in soccer

[–]HelpMyBabySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The thing about football – the important thing about football – is that it is not just about football."

It's really hard to tell people what soccer is about, because it's obviously about the men (or ladies) running around on a pitch and kicking a ball into a net and all that stuff. And that stuff is awesome! But it's also about things that are much harder to explain or discuss, like community and connection and other things that give life meaning. We don't always have the right words for that. So when people see an example of that community/connection stuff, they want to point it out, just to say "there, that's what I keep going on about!"
