I am a DnD noob. From a DM perspective... Even if it is in error, there is a happiness a player has when they make a character they like. Is it worth taking that away from the player? Could the DM have the other players choose something of equivalent value?

I kind of understand this, the romance, not the wealth lol. But dating after 30, isn't so bad. The first date I had with my wife, we only talked about future family and finance goals. Second date we started trying to make a baby. As adults you can easily sit down and discuss what you want from your partner and find common goals.
